About us
South East Coast Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust is part of the National Health Service (NHS). We respond to 999 calls from the public and healthcare professionals. We cover a diverse geographical area of 3,600 square miles (Brighton & Hove, East Sussex, West Sussex, Kent, Surrey, and North East Hampshire), which includes densely populated urban areas, sparsely populated rural areas and some of the busiest stretches of motorway in the country. We have over 4,000 staff working across 119 sites in Kent, Surrey and Sussex. Almost 90 per cent of our workforce is made up of operational staff – those caring for patients either face to face, or over the phone at one of our Emergency Operations Centres. Our patients range from the critically ill and injured who need specialist treatment, to those with minor healthcare needs who can be treated at home or in the community. As well as a 999 service, we also provide the NHS 111 service for Kent, Medway and Sussex (together with IC24) for when it’s urgent but not life-threatening.

A bit of Christmas cheer on the walls at our Tangmere Make Ready Centre as colleagues' children entered the festive spirit with a colouring competition. ✏️🎨 Thanks go to Community Resilience Lead, Chris, for organising and a special thanks to our 'head judge', cardiac arrest survivor, David, who was at the base to be reunited with his life-saving team. We loved all the entries. Well done all! 💚🎄💚 🎄

It was fantastic to hear from one of our colleagues, Thapelo Ndingisanyo as they reflected on their path to becoming a paramedic, sharing the challenges, growth, and incredible support they've experienced along the way. From Thapelo's first solo call as a Newly Qualified Paramedic (NQP) to becoming a mentor, their story is a testament to the strength of teamwork, the value of mentorship, and the opportunities to thrive as part of our service. A huge thank you to Thapelo for sharing your personal journey, and to our colleagues at Hastings Make Ready Centre and across our Trust for making stories like this possible. 💚
Reflection on My Journey of becoming a UK Paramedic. Around 18 months ago, I took a leap of faith and relocated to the UK to begin my career as an NQP. It was a nerve-wracking experience—I was anxious and uncertain about what the future would hold. But now, looking back, I can confidently say it was one of the best decisions I've ever made. Having had the opportunity to practice on both sides of the world, I truly believe there is so much the rest of the world can learn from the UK in terms of how to nurture and develop clinicians into becoming the best versions of themselves. From the moment I arrived at the airport to the day I started my first shift, the support from my colleagues has been nothing short of tremendous. I still vividly remember responding to my first call without my mentor. Terrified doesn't even begin to describe how I felt! But then I glanced in the rearview mirror and saw another response vehicle following close behind. That moment of relief reminded me that I was never truly alone in this journey. Mentorship plays such a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of paramedics. From providing constructive feedback on electronic patient care reports (EPCRs) to regular check-ins on how the NQP is adjusting, and even shadowing critical care paramedics (CCPs), every step is designed to help us grow. Completing the NQP portfolio also provided me with countless opportunities to reflect on my practice and build my confidence. The opportunity to complete the Practice Educator course has been a game-changer, preparing me to mentor the paramedics of the future—something I’m incredibly passionate about. This journey has been full of challenges, but it’s also been the most rewarding experience I could have asked for. One thing I've learned is that you’re never alone. No one expects you to know everything after you qualified and there’s always support available, 24/7. To anyone considering embarking on the journey of becoming a paramedic,I hope this reflection reassures you: you’re capable, and you’ll never be without guidance or encouragement along the way. Many thanks to SECAMB for this amazing experience and to my wonderful colleagues at Hastings MRC🙏 Happy Monday LinkedIn family!!

Well done all and have a fantastic Christmas David. David is adding his voice calling for more people to learn life-saving CPR. Read more about David's story here: https://lnkd.in/e_GBAZbu
