  • We're proud to launch our new nature-based project insights platform today! The platform is designed to drive greater transparency and understanding of forest carbon project impact. It provides a suite of insights and metrics about carbon impact powered by our audit-grade nature data: - Technical performance insights including Additionality, Leakage, and Credit Integrity - Biodiversity health indicators, and user-provided community data - Near real-time monitoring of deforestation and degradation with our latest geospatial data product: DisturbanceTracker Take your own tour around the platform now with our Tanzania REDD+ project sample - link in the comments. #REDD #ForestConservation #CarbonCredits

  • Sentinel-1C has been in orbit for over a month now! 🛰️ Sentinel-1 is a key satellite we use for HabitatMapper and DisturbanceTracker to see through clouds (a must for tropical forests!) and track changes under the leafy canopy. After losing Sentinel-1B a few years ago, we're delighted to have two satellites again as it means better coverage and more frequent updates. Looking forward to receiving its first images after the calibration period! #SatelliteData #Sentinel1 #NatureMapping

A video message from Singapore about urban jungles, their positive impact for many people, but the overall negative impact of development on both nearby and faraway forests. I've been here to speak at the CE Events & Media Investments in Forests & Landscapes conference, and overall I'm optimistic that the many people there (and all of you) can work together to stop further destruction of forests, and restore at least some of the losses. • Building trust in carbon markets is key to stopping deforestation 🌴 Our Chief Scientist Ed Mitchard, and Elitsa Marinova joined the Investments in Forestry & Biodiversity (IFB) conference in Singapore. Ed spoke on a panel about the need for stronger integrity in VCMs to unlock funding for forest protection and restoration across Southeast Asia and the tropics. At Space Intelligence, we’re on a mission to improve trust in carbon markets by creating high-quality maps of forest cover, deforestation, and forest carbon. These maps ensure carbon credits represent real reductions in emissions - either by protecting existing forests or growing new ones. The more confidence we build in VCM impact, the more financing we can drive toward protecting biodiversity and stopping climate change. #IFBSingapore #Deforestation #VCM #CarbonCredits

This is Elitsa Marinova and my home for the next 2 days - at the CE Events & Media  Investments into Forestry & Biodiversity (IFB) conference in Singapore, which we at Space Intelligence are sponsoring. Delighted to be underneath a beautiful Christmas tree, I wasn't quite ready for Christmas to be over anyway! Please come and talk to us if you're here, and message us otherwise! I'm on a panel tomorrow simply titled "The Integrity of Carbon Markets" - really looking forward to talking about such a critical topic with my fellow panelists Sandeep Roy Choudhury, Yiwen Zeng, Nadine Lim and Ian Short.

  • There is hope for Kenyan mangroves! 🌴 Kenyan mangroves are amazing ecosystems — rich in biodiversity and vital for storing carbon. Unfortunately, unsustainable harvesting has caused their decline over the years. However, restoration projects, especially along Kenya’s coast, are making a difference. In this on-demand webinar, we show how we’ve seen this progress first-hand - on our maps! We cover: - The challenges and advancements in mapping these essential ecosystems - How we ensure accuracy of data - What sets Space Intelligence maps apart from traditional open-source data Link in the comments 👇 #Kenya #NatureMappingData #Webinar

  • Ever wondered what deforestation looks like from space? 🛰️ Below are 3 satellite images of stable forest, non-forest and deforestation. Seems simple enough, doesn’t it? Not quite! In ecologically complex areas, machine learning models can sometimes misclassify land cover. That’s why our data scientists (with the help of ecologists) manually check hundreds of data points to make sure we’re identifying land cover classes accurately and tracking real deforestation. It’s a meticulous process, but it’s crucial for producing reliable, high-quality insights. #Deforestation #SatelliteData #NatureMapping
