How do you bring two different Incident Management Teams (#IMT) using two different Incident Management Systems (#IMS) together and respond efficiently to a large-scale incident? The SpillConsult Ltd team recently facilitated a large-scale Incident Management exercise involving over 100 people. This consisted of an emergency response exercise, a day of #training for the next phase and then a two-day proactive phase exercise.   The #exercise involved moving from the emergency response phase into the proactive response phase and brought a large commercial operator and government team together to respond to a major incident. A key aspect of the exercise was to look at how these two organisations can work together effectively utilising different Incident Management Systems. SpillConsult engaged with key stakeholders to design a scenario and storyline that allowed collaboration, setting shared objectives and utilising assets efficiently to meet these response objectives.    We managed a large simulation cell (#SimCell) with subject matter experts, including government representatives and contractors. The project exercised a range of exercise objectives and teams including Crisis Management, Operations, Planning, Logistics, Financing, Media and the Command structure.   SpillConsult Director Stuart Gair commented ‘We had a wonderful client and this was a really interesting project. The team enjoyed the challenge of bringing together two Incident Management Teams and Incident Management Systems (IMS). They quickly built productive relationships with the diverse stakeholders in planning and were part of the exercise control team, delivering a successful exercise. It was a very busy and enjoyable three days and great to see the result of the months of planning. Principal Consultant Rona Grimmer recently returned from the beautiful city of Muscat, Oman, where she directed a number of challenging exercises developed and delivered by SpillConsult Ltd for one of our long standing clients. Exercising realistic simulated incidents is an excellent way of testing the understanding of those who would be in charge of resolving a real-time incident. One of the exercises focussed entirely on the critical Human Resource (HR) elements of an incident response, something that can be particularly challenging. Consultant Matthew Wilson worked on the exercise development and delivery with Rona to ensure the exercises were as realistic as possible, and they were assisted from the UK by Victoria Fuller John Halfacre Rachel Oneill Sharon Charmin and Phoebe-Ann Nicholls as role players. Spillconsult have extensive experience in #Training and #Exercising companies on #IncidentResponse , including #HR #CareForPeople elements, so that they are well prepared for a time when they need to use those skills for real.
