SportsAid is delighted to reveal the top 10 athletes on the shortlist for this year’s One-to-Watch Award! The annual award, supported by Aldi, the charity’s Official Supermarket Partner, was launched in 2006 and shines a spotlight on the stories behind Britain’s brightest young sporting prospects. Each of this year’s finalists will receive in-person visits at their training environments to congratulate them on their outstanding achievements with the overall winner being announced in December. 🌟 Dan McLellan (Powerchair Football) 🌟 Erin Boothman (Cycling) 🌟 Irene Oboavwoduo (Basketball) 🌟 Isabella Rinaldi (Climbing) 🌟 Jack Long (Wheelchair Basketball) 🌟 Lily Laughton (Equestrian) 🌟 Ruby White (Boxing) 🌟 Samuel Reardon (Athletics) 🌟 Skye Fisher-Eames (Diving) 🌟 Summer Shaw (Judo) The 10 athletes have been selected from around 1,000 rising British stars, supported by SportsAid, across more than 60 different sports during 2024. Each year, athletes are nominated by their sport’s governing body on the strength of their talent and potential, demonstrating why the One-to-Watch Award has gained such a strong reputation for identifying the best up-and-coming prospects. The success of the One-to-Watch Award’s illustrious ‘Hall of Fame’ speaks for itself as previous victors, including Tom Daley OBE, Hollie Arnold MBE, Jodie Williams, Courtney Tulloch, Amber Rutter, Emma Wilson and Alex Yee MBE, have amassed 136 senior medals from Olympic and Paralympic Games, World Championships, European Championships and Commonwealth Games, firmly establishing themselves as household names in British sport. Last year, track sensation Yemi Mary John was presented with the One-to-Watch Award by 400 metres legend Christine Ohuruogu MBE after an outstanding year which saw her claim gold in the 400m at the European Athletics Under-23s Championships and two senior relay medals at the World Athletics Championships. During the summer, Yemi Mary, who also featured in the top 10 in 2022, secured a bronze medal in the 4x400m Women’s Relay at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. ▶️ https://lnkd.in/epEW9bud #SportsAidO2W #SupportTheNext #SportsAid #Olympics #Paralympics #sport #athletes #mentoring #wellbeing #nextgeneration #nextgen #future #talent #charity #fundraising #powerchairfootball #football #cycling #basketball #climbing #wheelchairbasketball #equestrian #boxing #athletics #diving #judo

SportsAid provides financial support and personal development opportunities to Great Britain's future sporting heroes!
About us
SportsAid supports over 1,000 athletes each year – the vast majority aged 12 to 18 – by providing them with a financial award to help towards training and competition costs. This acts as a real motivational boost as it is often the first recognition they receive outside of their support network. Most of them rely heavily on their parents as they have no other funding. These athletes are Great Britain's brightest sporting prospects. They are nominated to SportsAid by the national governing bodies of more than 60 sports based on set criteria from each. The typical value of a SportsAid award is £1,000 with money generated through a combination of commercial partnerships, trust and charitable funds, and fundraising activities. The charity delivers personal development opportunities to many athletes through workshop sessions. This sees them offered mentoring by Olympians and Paralympians while gaining advice from industry experts on performance lifestyle management, sports psychology, nutrition, telling your story through the media and how best to seek further sponsorship. SportsAid also manages the Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS) and Backing The Best programme on behalf of Sport England. TASS helps athletes (16-plus) balance their sporting and academic careers, while Backing The Best supports the most financially challenged young sports stars looking to overcome cost barriers to fulfil their potential. Since 1976, SportsAid has supported tens of thousands of athletes by distributing over £50 million in awards. The charity's extensive alumni stretches across the generations with Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill, Sir Mo Farah, Baroness Grey-Thompson, Dame Sarah Storey, Sir Steve Redgrave, Dame Katherine Grainger and Laura Kenny CBE, Ellie Simmonds OBE, Dina Asher-Smith and Tom Daley all stand-out names.

SportsAid was delighted to bring together over 40 talented young athletes, along with their parents and caregivers, for a very special summer event at Marsh McLennan’s Tower Place offices in August! #SportsAidLive acted as the perfect opportunity for athletes, across more than 20 different sports, and their families to meet each other and share their experiences and knowledge, while also benefitting from mentoring and valuable workshops in areas such as mind health, sleep, performance, wellbeing and building your brand. In addition to the top industry professionals (BelievePerform, Leon Taylor, Zone3, Dr David Garley, Dr Luke Gupta) who led these sessions, several sporting household names joined the athletes and parents and caregivers to talk about their own high-performance journeys and provide guidance on a range of topics. There was a lot of Olympic stardust sprinkled on the event as Amber Anning, Bradly Sinden, Emily Campbell and Ross Cullen joined us fresh from #Paris2024 to share their insights! Parents and caregivers also heard from Mel Anning, Sheryl Sinden and Paul Cullen about their children's sporting journeys and the family role within this. A huge thank you to Marsh for hosting #SportsAidLive, Tom Gayle for presenting the event, the alumni and workshop deliverers who imparted their wisdom....and of course the athletes and their families for committing the time during their busy summer schedules. We can't wait to do it all again next year! #SportsAid #SupportTheNext #GreatBritain #Britain #British #Olympics #Paralympics #TeamGB #ParalympicsGB #sport #highperformance #athlete #athletes #charity #fundraising #learning #education #knowledge #encourage #enable #empower

A huge thank you to Aldi for inviting current SportsAid athletes Edward Gray, Evie Strachan and Leila Scott to #KittingOut with Team GB at the NEC in Birmingham yesterday! Young archer Edward, mountain biker Evie and hockey player Leila Scott, all of whom are supported by Aldi through the charity, had the chance to go behind-the-scenes and experience the journey of a Team GB athlete going through the Kitting Out process ahead of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. They received a warm welcome from Olympic gold and bronze medallist Shona McCallin MBE and Commonwealth Games champion Ama Agbeze MBE who both accompanied Edward, Evie and Leila at different points throughout the tour led by Timbo Isikalu from Team GB. Edward, Evie and Leila learned more about Team GB’s identity, culture and values, and watched an inspirational video featuring Olympic gold and silver medallist Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill as she highlighted what it means to represent your country and wear the kit on the biggest stage of all. No question was left unanswered as Edward, Evie and Leila went through the various activation points including those hosted by Natwest, TikTok, Ben Sherman, Adidas and Alexander Manufacturing. They also received their own special Aldi kit and met many of the brilliant volunteers supporting the Kitting Out process as well as Games officials. Thank you, once again, to Aldi, and also to Team GB, for such an incredible opportunity! #SupportTheNext #SportsAid #OlympicGames #Olympics #GreatBritain #Britain #British #TeamGB #Paris2024 #sport #athletes #equality #inclusion #diversity #education #guidance #advice #coaching #mentoring #wellbeing #selffulfilment #nextgeneration #nextgen #future #talent #charity #fundraising Ellie Graham Aldi UK
