Changing Sport, Strengthening Communities, Transforming Lives

About us

StreetGames exists to bridge the sporting inequality gap for young people from low-income, underserved communities. Since we launched in 2007, we have been working with community organisations across the UK to transform young lives through sport. Our network now totals over 1,600 organisations – from sports clubs and community groups to housing associations, leisure trusts and local authorities – and we are proud to support each and every one of these in their tireless and transformational work. We are the people beside the people who change lives and communities. Doorstep Sport is our evidence-based delivery approach, underpinned by the 5 rights: sport delivered at the right time, the right place, in the right style, by the right people and at the right price. Appropriately delivered Doorstep Sport transforms young lives by providing positive pathways and alleviating some of the impacts of living in a low income, underserved community. It offers a route to healthier, safer, more successful young people and neighbourhoods. We are committed to growing the reach and impact of Doorstep Sport in more places, with more young people. StreetGames achieves its vision when: - All young people from low-income, underserved communities can engage in life-enhancing Doorstep Sport. - There is a year-round, multisport offer available in every low-income, underserved community. - All young people from low-income, underserved communities can access a pathway to become volunteers and future community leaders. - All mainstream sports providers change their practice to meet the needs of young people from low-income, underserved communities. StreetGames is registered as a charity with the Charity Commission (registered charity number 1113542) and as a company limited by guarantee with the Registrar of Companies (registered company number 5384487).

"It is great to work with partners who are all so committed to putting children and young people at the centre of decision making. The principles of the Children's Coaching Collaborative (CCC) underpin so much of the work that StreetGames enables" - Hannah Crane, Director at StreetGames UK StreetGames are one of 17 partners who make up the CCC, which are the driving force behind the #PlayTheirWay movement: bit.ly/3XtNICu

  • We are proud to use our knowledge, insight, and connections to help National Governing Bodies and mainstream sports providers develop strategies and offers that better meet the needs of young people from low-income, underserved communities. Between September 2023 and March 2024, we partnered with Wales Netball to co-develop Blitz Netball® - an informal, accessible version of the sport designed to be delivered on young people’s terms and engage new audiences. Through our collaboration with Chance to Shine, we supported 18 Street Cricket projects over the past year, giving more than 1,000 young people from underserved communities the chance to experience the sport for the first time. By working with NGBs, sport sector partners, and event organising committees, we distributed 6,500 tickets to live elite sporting events, providing young people with opportunities to build positive associations, memories, and connections with sport. We're committed to ensuring that all young people, regardless of their background, can experience the joy and benefits of sport. https://lnkd.in/eW5JWxx8

  • At StreetGames, we want to create pathways in every low income, underserved community for young people to become volunteers and future community leaders. This year we were proud to offer more than 40 different youth empowerment opportunities, providing 436 young people from the StreetGames network with opportunities to become Young Advisors, Peer Researchers, Youth Leaders, co-creators, public speakers and more. Our #NextGen Residential at Brathay Trust saw 49 young people taking part in a five-day young leader development programme, embracing a range of new experiences and building the tools and skills needed to make a lasting difference in their communities. • Doorstep Sport supports young people to be the best they can be – delivering accessible, vibrant and varied activities that help young people and their neighbourhoods to be healthier, safer and more successful. This year, we provided 562 trusted community organisations with investment totalling over £10.2m to support the delivery of Doorstep Sport, creating more opportunities for young people to try new things, build new skills and connect with others – right on their doorstep. Events like the Gareth Bale Festival of Sport were a key part of engaging more young people in physical activity – with attendees having the chance to explore a wide range of sports in a fun and inclusive atmosphere, helping them to find their passion and stay active: https://lnkd.in/exJKCWcc We are also proud to have collaborated with a range of partners to continue to build the evidence for the role of sport in tackling youth crime and violence – including influencing VRU and PCC funding in the West Midlands, Greater Manchester, Thames Valley and Leicestershire.

  • At StreetGames, we are committed to ensuring that a year-round multi-sport offer is available in every low income, underserved community. Over the past year, we are proud to have enabled over 92,000 children and young people to take part in Doorstep Sport and holiday activities provided by organisations in the StreetGames network. We continued to support organisations to prepare for and deliver vital Holiday Activity and Food (HAF) activities, delivering an extensive training programme for local authorities, partners and organisations as well as taking a leading role in the coordination of the HAF Alliance. We provided dedicated support to local authority teams in the co-ordination of HAF programmes in Birmingham, Lancashire, Newcastle and Derbyshire, and supported several other contracts in Tower Hamlets, Hull and Stockport and Trafford. We have also continued to grow the delivery of Fit and Fed provision – including targeted support in Swansea, Denbighshire and Plymouth which enabled over 800 hours of Fit and Fed activities, with more than 6000 meals and snacks provided to 3,943 children and young people. #HolidaysMatter

  • In this Olympic and Paralympic year, our partnership with Team GB has been instrumental in inspiring more young people to get active and enjoy the many benefits that taking part in sport can provide. We were proud to support organisations in our network to benefit from the #ChangeMakers initiative from Team GB, ParalympicsGB, UK Sport and the National Lottery, welcoming Olympic and Paralympic athletes to their programmes to inspire their young people. We also worked with Team GB to develop an Olympic- and Paralympic-themed training workshop, delivering this to community organisations across the country to equip them with new skills and ideas to engage young people and further the inspirational impact of the Games. #SportInspires https://lnkd.in/dvZ4Skpi

  • A message from our CEO Mark Lawrie: "The Active Lives Children and Young People Survey report released by Sport England on Thursday 5th December makes for somewhat sobering reading. Whilst overall activity levels have been maintained, reflecting the great work of so many locally trusted sporting organisations, the lasting impact of the Covid pandemic and the ongoing cost of living crisis are undoubtedly further impacting the activity levels of children and young people facing multiple inequalities. We know the power of sport and physical activity to improve physical health, support mental wellbeing, develop confidence and life skills and to play a role in tackling some of the pervasive issues in our communities. As we near the end of the year, we should reflect upon our individual and collective efforts to ensure the benefits of sport reach those who have the most to gain from them. So many individuals and organisations are passionate about the life-changing benefits of sport and physical activity – how do we better combine our efforts as we move forwards to rise to the challenge?" This move ensures that SPYN receives the dedicated focus it deserves to further its vital work in supporting the health and wellbeing of children and young people through social prescribing. We are thrilled to announce that we are the new hosts of the Social Prescribing Youth Network! 📣 Daniel Hayes, Senior Research Fellow, shares more: “Children and young people’s mental and physical health has reached a crisis point. Despite significant need for youth social prescribing, and growing momentum and interest, its potential is unrealised. SPYN is a fantastic network that has the potential to drive work in this space forwards by mobilising stakeholders, providing training and networking opportunities, and sharing good practice. We are very excited to build on our existing knowledge and partnerships in this field and take SPYN to the next level in terms of impact.” Read all the details in our statement with StreetGames, plus find out how to join the Network and get involved in upcoming activities: https://lnkd.in/eEwwystv #SocialPrescribing #YoungPeople #MentalHealth #PhysicalHealth
