Recent Met Office figures show that five of the 10 wettest years for the UK have occured since 2000 and six of the warmest years on record were in the past decade. Every farm has been affected by climate change and whether 'consciously or unconsciously' farmers are responding to these impacts. In our latest in our #IntheKnow series we explore strategies that businesses have already implemented to future-proof against weather extremes and identify actions that farms may want to consider in future. As Jonathan Armitage, Head of Farming, notes: "We can't control the weather, but we can plan to reduce exposure - both physically and financially - to more erratic weather patterns." https://lnkd.in/eQzjUNUT

Yesterday, we hosted our annual London Land and Property Briefing at BNP Paribas head office in Marylebone, where we welcomed industry leaders to discuss timely issues impacting our sector. With the Autumn Budget marking a critical turning point, this year’s event highlighted the importance of how we adapt to new challenges in a changing landscape. A core message? The landscape is evolving rapidly, and now more than ever, seeking expert guidance is essential. While it’s crucial to stay proactive, thoughtful decision-making remains key in this shifting environment. Special thanks to our speakers for their insights. You can read more about building resilience to ensure the long-term prosperity of estates and farming businesses in our latest edition of Land Business Magazine here: https://lnkd.in/eXV8S2Vp #Rural #Farming #Renewables #Residential Jason Beedell, Jonathan Armitage, Kathryn Donkin, Nick Bramley, Nicholas Watson, Tom Stanley, Yasmin Bell, Sam Holt, Oliver Custance Baker, Alexander Macfarlane MRAC MCIOB AssocRICS, Joel Paterson

The recent Budget has sent shockwaves through the rural sector because of changes to the inheritance tax regime and faster cuts to Basic Payments in England. Rhodri Thomas, our Head of Rural says: “The rationale of reliefs, like APR and BPR, is that they help prevent the sale or break-up of a business to finance IHT payments. Many farming businesses have relied upon these long-standing reliefs to survive through multiple generations. We do not have all of the details yet, but the change has significantly increased the potential IHT liability on almost all farms, apart from the smallest ones. We are likely to see a long period of tax and business planning to understand the changes and to try to reduce the increased liability.” We’ve prepared a brief summary of the key announcements, along with our current understanding of what they mean: https://lnkd.in/ettMg_Fm #UKBudget #RuralSector #FarmingPolicy

The Autumn Budget comes nearly four months after the party swept to power in the 2024 General Election. Matthew Henderson, Residential Research, believes it provides some much-needed certainty, "allowing people to make some informed decisions after months of speculation about what the government has in store.” Here, we round-up Labour’s key announcements and what they could mean for you and the wider housing market: https://lnkd.in/epsrssiU #AutumnBudget #AutumnStatement #LabourGovernment
