What were you doing on 10th January 2000??? 25 years ago today was one of the most significant days of my life…as Nigel Hudson James Cornwell Eleine, Andrew, Cheryl & I launched Area . We had no idea of the journey ahead… as our early business attire will testify. Our home the Runnymede Malthouse was an office like no other, where the kettle and drawing plotter shared a socket. But the energy, drive and camaraderie were priceless, as we designed and built amazing offices for our clients. Nothing focusses the mind like the threat of losing your home if things go wrong! Where did the last 25 years go….some incredible highs…securing our 1st £1m project in July 2000, being one of the first design & build businesses to win the BCO Office of Year Award, creating the £150m+ turnover Fourfront Group, delivering a year end speech to our entire company in Lisbon. We have seen our share of lows, some self-inflicted, but none come close to the passing of colleagues. Our work has also enabled us to give back to society. My most humbling experience was spent visiting Shooting Star Children's Hospices, and our team has now raised close to £1m for this amazing charity. Today Area has evolved from the one we launched…occupying 2 fantastic offices in Windsor & London Bridge!!! Led by Aki Stamatis Gary Chandler Sion Davies the business remains entrepreneurial in spirit, delivering projects across Europe, winning multiple awards and pioneering ESG initiatives on every level. There are so many people to thank and acknowledge… our joint founders, the late Ross Wilson from Wilson Partners, the contractors and suppliers without whom we cannot survive, the clients who entrusted us with their projects, and all of my colleagues and their families both past and present who have contributed so much to our journey. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU. And finally…, things would have been very different if we had adopted Nigel’s choice of company name …but fortunately Naked Interiors lost out to Area Sq!!!
