📢The final round of negotiations to establish a global treaty to tackle plastic waste pollution has finished without an agreement in place. Due to a handful of major oil producing nations blocking proposals, we are going to have to wait at least another year before a treaty can be put in place.😠 🛢️Whilst big polluters will surely look to derail these talks again and again we must make sure our government stands firm as part of the high ambition coalition working for plastic reduction targets. ✊Our resolve must not be dimmed.✊ To ensure that our government continue to take plastics reduction seriously at home and on the global stage, we need to take the plastics big oil is filling our ocean with, and use it to drown our Government in evidence, so they can not ignore plastic pollution. To help us build a mountain of evidence join a million mile clean and undertake a brand audit so we have all the evidence we need to take the fight to polluters. #endplasticpollution #plasticpollution #plasticfreeocean #plasticwaste #plasticfreeUK #plasticocean #plasticfreecommunities #oceanplastic #choosetoreuse #oceanactivists #millionmileclean

About us
Surfers Against Sewage is a national marine conservation and campaigning charity that inspires, unites and empowers communities to take action to protect the ocean and our blue spaces. Home to the Million Mile Clean, Plastic Free Communities, Plastic Free Schools and the Safer Seas & Rivers Service. Our Campaigns Water Quality - Sewage and agricultural pollution still plague the rivers and ocean. We are calling for an end to sewage pollution to guarantee safe seas, all year round. Our ambition is to end sewage discharges into UK bathing waters by 2030. Ocean & Climate - To reverse the ocean and climate crisis, we need urgent and drastic reduction in carbon dioxide emissions as well as the rapid embracing of nature-based solutions to limit carbon dioxide emissions in the atmosphere. Our ambition is for the UK to be net-zero by 2030. Ocean Recovery - The UK’s seas host some of the most biodiverse life in the world. However, due to the increasing pressure from human activities, marine biodiversity has decreased dramatically. Our ambition is for 30% of the ocean and all UK Marine Protected Areas to be highly protected by 2030. Plastic Pollution - To solve the plastic pollution crisis, we need to reduce the production and consumption of non-essential single-use, throwaway and polluting plastic, and build a circular economy that ensures plastics are designed to be reused and repaired. Our ambition is to end single-use plastic pollution on UK beaches by 2030.

Thames Water is on the brink. And the law passing through parliament, right now, could leave us to bailout their debt if they fail. Think that's wrong? Sign #BanTheBailouts petition now. We can't allow profit from pollution to be put into law. 👉 https://lnkd.in/ecNpHJcU

📢Since privatisation, more than £80 billion has been siphoned off to industry shareholders. All whilst our vital sewerage infrastructure creaks, leaks and fails under the strain of under-investment. And yet the government is still trying to pass a law which could leave the public - me and you - to bear the cost of bailing out failing water companies. What a sh!tshow. Sign our urgent #BanTheBailouts petition now and demand the government puts public health before polluters' profits. 👉 https://lnkd.in/eYq8ai9P #EndSewagePollution #SewageScandal #FatCatsSewerRats #DirtyMoney

The Government's first step to clean up our rivers and seas is a good start... BUT as it stands, their flagship legislation could give water companies the power to pass on their debt to their customers by increasing bills. 😲This won't just impact their own customers, but ALL billpayers. And we simply won't stand for that. We need the Government to amend their proposed Bill, to make it clear that water companies can’t make customers bail them out of their own debt. So sign our petition today and tell the Government to #BanTheBailouts 👉 https://lnkd.in/dArZtwm4 We are working hard behind the scenes but this campaign needs public support. This government has a real opportunity to reshape the water industry. But we need them to amend this bill now before it’s too late. Supported by our friends: SOS Whitstable, Save Windermere, Henley Mermaids, Ilkley Clean River Group, Windrush Against Sewage Pollution, The WI, & River Action 🙌 #EndSewagePollution #SewageScandal #FatCatsSewerRats #DirtyMoney

⏰ THE CLOCK IS TICKING. ⏰ We can't let the Government's Water (Special Measures) Bill prioritise polluters instead of people and planet. And neither should you. This bill could force the public to bailout failing water companies. NO. WAY. ❌🤑 We need to act now, before it's too late. We're demanding the Government amend their proposed Bill to make it clear that water companies can’t make customers bail them out of their own debt. And we need to show them that the public demands change too. For too long, we've paid for a job done badly and profiting polluters have continued to prioritise lining shareholders' pockets. It's time to reshape the water industry. We hope the Government takes the side of the people before it’s too late. Sign our petition today and tell the Government to #BanTheBailouts 👉 https://lnkd.in/eY6sFbwM 👈 Supported by our friends: SOS Whitstable, Save Windermere, Henley Mermaids, Ilkley Clean River, W.A.S.P. This is where the model of profit from pollution gets us... We're surrounded by an ocean of 💩. And our rivers are full to the brim too. Water companies feed us sh!t excuses and fill their pockets with #DirtyMoney. 🤑 We've had enough. And we know you have too. Look out for our new campaign launching later today, the ocean needs your support... 👀 #EndSewagePollution #SewageScandal #BanTheBailouts
