In 2006, Tarana Burke used the phrase "MeToo" for the first time on Myspace, to help other people who had experienced sexual assault standup for themselves. Over a decade later, #MeToo went viral on X. This sparked a global movement, putting a spotlight on sexual violence and visibility demonstrating how many people have experienced sexual assault and harassment. But as we continue to use social media to progress movements and standup for our beliefs, it's important to consider -- Am I being an ally? Or is this just performative?
