One in four people have no other option but to dump or burn their rubbish, and plastic is a major part of this problem. From Monday 25 November, a week of negotiations begins for a global plastic treaty in Busan, South Korea. Please join us in prayer for an ambitious and legally binding plastic treaty to end plastic pollution and its impacts on people living in poverty. #globalplasticstreaty

How do we break the cycles of conflict? Peace and fear cannot live together. Imagine a future where conflicts are resolved not through violence, but through understanding and collaboration. Tearfund’s peacebuilding work empowers churches to be the centre of transformation and bring peace to communities and societies where there has been conflict. It was a privilege to host Safa Hijazeen, Tearfund’s Regional Director for the Middle East, during his recent visit to the UK. 🌍 During his time here, Safa spoke at several special events, including ‘In Conversation with Safa Hijazeen’ in King's Cross, London, a session with church leaders at Emmanuel Church in Lurgan, and an interview with Heartsong Live radio. These moments provided the opportunity to hear directly from Safa about the incredible work he and his team are doing alongside church and community leaders in the Middle East, focusing on peace-building, reconciliation, and supporting regions impacted by conflict. He also shared how supporters can get involved with the Middle East Humanitarian Appeal. Prayer was a key theme, with some events focusing on inviting churches and supporters, such as the Free Church of Scotland and their moderator in Edinburgh, as well as supporters at Skainos in Belfast, to urgently pray for the Middle East, interceding for those affected by violence and suffering. Throughout his visit, Safa shared powerful stories from the region, highlighting the resilience of communities and the transformative work being done to foster healing and unity. He also encouraged all of us to reflect on how we can each play a role in this vital mission. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us, both in person and online, and to those who continue to support the vital work we do!

When the worst drought in 40 years hit Kenya, Lokhu, who lives in Marsabit County, could no longer afford to keep her children in school. Hunger quickly became a frightening reality for her family, who went from having two meals a day to just one. And, as they live five miles from the closest borehole, without water they were not going to survive. ‘There is a borehole, but it is far away, so we cannot walk there and bring water back. The donkeys have died, and so we can’t use them to bring water. Sometimes we go a week without water,’ says Lokhu. Tearfund’s local church partner provided emergency support. Since then, together we have helped the community rebuild and introduced vital training so people would not be so severely impacted by climate change. This has included drought-resistant farming techniques, so families can stand strong in the face of the climate crisis. It’s not God’s plan for anyone to live in poverty, but countless people around the world are stuck, unable to provide for their families. This Christmas, you can help families like Lokhu’s around the world break the cycle and leave poverty for good. Please donate now. https://brnw.ch/21wOKTs

Your faithful prayers can make such a difference to communities living in poverty. As we approach Christmas, we remember God’s promises of the coming Messiah and of hope and salvation for the world. Every day, across the world, local churches are bringing this hope to life. Communities are being transformed. Lives are being changed. These are stories that need to be told. Stories that remind us of God's faithfulness. This Advent season, join us for A Living Hope, a free series of prayerful emails that brings you inspiring stories directly from our global teams. Starting 1 December, you will receive hope-filled stories, prayer points, and videos every Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from places where transformation is still needed. ‘Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.’ (James 2:15–17) 📸 Shahadat Hossain
