Teun shares key lessons learned from the Circular Electronics Design Guide (CEDG), co-developed with CEP to help companies integrate circularity into product design. 💡 Key topics from the interview: 📌 Biggest obstacles for the circular transition: Companies struggle with circularity due to perceived risks, unclear economic benefits, and systemic barriers like inconsistent regulations and inadequate infrastructure. 📌 Role of engineers & leadership buy-in: Engineers drive circularity through design and prototyping, but leadership must embrace uncertainty and suppliers need stronger incentives to participate. 📌 Industry-wide collaboration is essential: Faster progress requires cross-company data sharing and cooperation, as no single company can transition alone. So this was lovely to receive the other day - the Impact summary report from the InterClimate Network Climate Conferences for schools held at the end of 2024. As COP29 took place in Baku, Azerbaijan, over 500 students from 65 secondary schools engaged in UN-style climate negotiations and dialogue with their own local decision-makers. Alongside a group of facilitatiors "on tour" by train across the country. I've been supporting to facilitate these for a few years now as a Just Ideas Sustainable Solutions Ltd. associate collaborating with the InterClimate Network and it's always so inspiring to work with the students, teachers and local climate action representatives (as well as JI and ICN teams). As global leaders continually disappoint (and horrify), it's more important then ever to imagine, empathise, think critically and prototype alternative leadership and collaboration between all, now and in the future.
