🌐 Whilst the real-world COP process was wrapping up in Baku amidst walk outs and controversy, 60+ students in Bham came together in the council chamber for their own (arguably more successful!) Model UN COP 🌐 In the chamber, the pupils did an incredible job of negotiating, voting, making back room deals, tabling motions and all the rest of it. After a morning in the conference, we then gave them a chance to speak with a range of industry experts, Queen Elizabeth Prize for Engineering ambassadors, and council officers about local and national issues, like waste, air quality, transport, energy grid transformation, tree planting, and sustainable construction. From these conversations, they then crafted pledges to take back to their schools and quizzed our cabinet member for Environment and Transport on our climate track record. This was a really fulfilling day to organise and a fun one to watch, even better with some great measurable outcomes: 94% of students left with a better understanding of how the council is taking climate action 91% left with a better understanding of how they can take climate action 81% now feel more confident to share their concerns and ideas about climate change to others (e.g., politicians, school leaders, family, community) A big thank you to the InterClimate Network for their excellent hosting and facilitation, and to the many the council staff and external volunteers who helped make it a success. This was an inspiring day with lots of intelligent discussion from the students. It was amazing to be on the panel for the Question Time session, communicating CBC's climate action and answering insightful questions about hope, funding and barriers. A lot of fun !! Last week the council chamber was a buzz with energy as we hosted 14 local schools for a mock COP29 climate conference with InterClimate Network and the Cheltenham Education Partnership🌍 The students represented countries attending COP29 and took on the role of advocating for their countries climate priorities. They asked insightful and thought-provoking questions to a panel of professionals and passionately discussed local action ideas for their schools and communities. The students' hard work was inspiring and their passion and enthusiasm infectious! Watch our video below to see the students reflect on the mock COP29 conference and emphasise the importance of valuing our young people in the climate effort. The message couldn't be clearer, 'listen to kids'! 📣 #COP29 #ClimateChange #ClimateAction #Cheltenham InterClimate Network Iain Dobie Louise Forey Maizy McCann Raechel Kelly Kenny Lynch Benefact Group

Last Friday we held the Wandsworth Schools' Climate Conference - thanks Anna for joining us! We were really impressed with students' thoughtful contributions and questions.
On Friday, I very much enjoyed having a table at this great mock COP at the Hangar of the Battersea Arts Centre, organised by Wandsworth Council and the brilliant InterClimate Network. I was on a stall along with a number of local organisations. Groups of students talked to me about Let's Go Zero, the work we do, and the sort of changes they'd like to see happen at their own schools.

Today I took part in a great event held at the council house in Birmingham. Organised by David Evans and his colleagues from Birmingham City Council and the InterClimate Network. Eight local schools were invited to take over climate negotiations in a mock COP29 conference. The event coincided with COP29 climate talks in Baku, Azerbaijan and emulated the real-life conference. Pupils spent the morning generating proposals to speed up climate action and adaptation. This was followed up by discussions around setting funding goals that reflect how urgently extra support is needed around the world. The pupils put forward some great points and their confidence was impressive. In the afternoon pupils attended the climate action fayre, where Sally James, HonMFPH from BCC BRUM Breathes, David Arkins from National Grid Partners, Acivico Group, Elliot Hemes from IPG Automotives, Tonia Clark from Birmingham Tree People, Jenny Royall from Team Modeshift STARS along with myself from Let's Go Zero came together to showcase our work and answer questions on steps to tackle climate change. Pupils were really invested in how to improve not only their schools but their communities too. This was followed by Councillor Majid Mahmood, (Cabinet Member for Environment, Waste and Transport at BCC) hosting a Q&A for a chance for young people’s questions to go directly to local decision-makers. I have to say the questions were very tricky! Finally to end, schools were asked to put their pledges of action forward from their learning today. Can’t wait to see these action in place and I look forward to working with the schools that signed up to Let’s Go Zero today. If your a school looking for support with climate actions click the link below: https://lnkd.in/evq33bmu. A big shout out to Naomi Stackhouse (teacher) from Bishop Vesey Grammer School, so lovely to catch up and see the progress from the Climate Action Plan Let’s Go Zero supported you with. I look forward to following your journey to going zero waste to landfill this year, an impressive achievement indeed!

Thank you for joining us! It was inspiring to see so many students working together to advance climate action.
This morning’s mock COP29 conference with the InterClimate Network saw students from 14 schools come together in the council chamber to tackle global climate challenges with confidence and determination. Our students represented Barbados and did so impeccably—real Barbadians would be proud of their negotiation skills! Their ability to advocate and collaborate was inspiring. Well done team! #COP29 Cheltenham Education Partnership Cheltenham Borough Council

A great Schools' Climate Conference today in Cheltenham with Cheltenham Borough Council and 14 schools from across the area. Participants braved the snowy weather and students debated different countries' priorities with confidence and evidence of thorough research!
This morning we welcomed students from 14 schools into the council chamber, the centre of local decision making, to take part in a mock COP29 conference with the InterClimate Network and the Cheltenham Education Partnership🌍 As representatives of a diverse mix of developing, emerging and developed countries attending COP29, the debate began with students discussing climate issues and agreeing resolutions on key themes. In a conference debate that mirrors the UN negotiations, they put forward policy positions using carefully chosen arguments in order to reach consensus. It was fantastic to see the students communicate their points so eloquently and passionately, and we look forward to seeing how the conference progresses into the afternoon. #ClimateAction #cop29baku #COP29Azerbaijan
