A fresh look at the world's city innovation ecosystems offers clues to some important underlying trends. 🇮🇳 India now has 3 of the world's top 50 performers, more than Germany, UK, ASEAN or Southern Europe. Gurgaon's 40 year story from abandoned car factory to global hub is starting to rival Shenzhen's. A developer-led city, it also shows the importance of switching from hands-off to hands-on to coordinate infrastructure. 🇳🇱 Amsterdam continues somewhat below the radar as the fastest growth ecosystem in Europe, leveraging the scale and specialisation of its region. 🇺🇸 Among post-industrial turnaround cities, Philadelphia stands out worldwide. Testifying to the value of a diversified economy, forward thinking institutions, land development stewards, large BIDs, and strategic investments in inclusive job programmes. 🇨🇳 With 10% of the world's top ecosystems, the Shanghai wider region - the Yangtze River Delta - has a claim to being the most innovative mega-region in the world. Connectivity is key to this. The region's high speed rail network is now nearly as large as the whole of Europe's (19-20,000km)! Cities like Wuxi and Nanjing - 120 and 300km away - connect to Shanghai over 100 times a day in as little as 35 and 70 minutes respectively. See the global picture here. https://lnkd.in/exA39bC4
