The 2021 Freshfields report, 'A Legal Framework for Impact', found that mainstream investors are permitted, and in many cases required, to set targets and pursue impact goals through their asset allocation, stewardship and policy engagement. Put simply, investors are likely to have a legal obligation to mitigate systemic risk. This cannot be done through diversification or ESG-integration alone. Investing for sustainability impact requires investors to pursue positive impacts via asset allocation, stewardship and policy advocacy to preserve the value of their whole portfolio. Candidates should be experts in environmental science or sustainable business, with at least 15 years of experience in their field. We are looking for expertise across land, biodiversity and freshwater, and a commitment to our core principles of independence, robustness and accountability. Members of the Integrity Council will oversee the governance of the target validation function, playing a central role in ensuring the integrity, accuracy and scientific validity of science-based targets for nature. Bittersweet to share the *final* publication from our Legal Framework for Impact project with Principles for Responsible Investment and United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI): Investor Guidance on Investing for Sustainability Impact. This Investor Guide provides practical steps for asset owners and managers to better implement the findings of A Legal Framework for Impact. It is increasingly difficult to ignore the materiality of systemic risks like climate change and economic inequality, yet most mainstream investors are not deploying all the tools at their disposal to manage those challenges. This guide provides a structure to help investors to achieve their goals, fulfil their legal duties and better serve their clients and beneficiaries. I am pleased we are ending on a high note with tangible tools that I hope investors will find useful. ICYMI: 350.org's LATAM team launched their "Energia dos Povos" (Energy for the People) campaign during #COP29. https://lnkd.in/esZYswyZ 1 million people do not have access to energy in the Brazilian Amazon. This new campaign advocates for renewable energy access in the Amazon, emphasizing human rights and systemic change. We are funding 350.org to build a strong coordinated climate justice movement in Latin America that can protect local communities and amplify their voices to halt fossil fuel finance and invest in renewable solutions in Latin America. This project aims to apply pressure and engage key stakeholders to reduce investment flows to Vaca Muerta, the Columbian corridor, and the Amazon and increase investments in renewable energy projects. Alongside our partners at Principles for Responsible Investment and United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI), we have published guidance for asset managers and owners on how to invest for sustainability impact.
