Black History Month 2024 has centered on reclaiming narratives - elevating Black stories and experiences that have too often been silenced or distorted. In response to a lack of insight on the experiences of Black staff and students in the HE sector, back in 2020 Halpin Senior Consultant Osaro Otobo led a research project into UK Universities’ response to Black Lives Matter – research which was revisited earlier this year and as well as insights gives practical advice to those carrying out anti-racism work in the sector. I’m excited to be speaking at ContentEd Conference 2024 today, where I’ll be diving into “Black Lives Matter in Education”. This session is based on years of research I’ve done for Halpin and reporting on how we can better support Black students and staff in higher education through Content Strategy. It’s also based on my experiences with campaigns and content strategy in this space through my Make Diversity Count work. The theme for Black History Month is Reclaiming Narratives and it feels quite apt to be give this presentation at this conference. We know that returning to work after maternity leave can come with a mix of emotions and we are overjoyed to welcome back the brilliant Rachael Magee and announce that she will take on the role of Principal Consultant. Having been with Halpin since its earliest days there are very few areas of HE consultancy Rachael hasn’t worked in. With particular expertise in fundraising, development and alumni relations and management, over the coming months Rachael will bring her energy and experience to our work with clients on campaign planning, resource reviews, coaching and interim leadership.
