The lives of young people with psychosis are being transformed due to a new study focussing on early intervention. The EYE-2 project refined the work of the EYE (Early Youth Engagement) study, which was developed as a new approach for working with young people, their parents and Early Intervention in Psychosis (EIP) staff, to prevent poor engagement in services. It was led by researchers at Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, with patient and public involvement (PPI) work from McPin, and was recently featured on BBC News! We spoke to interviewee & peer support worker Craig Mackie about his experience 👉 https://lnkd.in/ezdWBcvm NIHR (National Institute for Health and Care Research) #Psychosis #MentalHealth #PsychosisSupport #YouthMentalHealth

Learn more about our first Young People’s Training Academy and what young people had to say about it. Over 5 weeks, our research and training manager, Abi Burgess ran a research introduction programme to around 40 young people. The sessions provided insights into research process and research methods, and using lived experience in research. https://lnkd.in/eAyXsj8U #Research #InvestinYouth

If you do public involvement & engagement as part of your research, we now have an animated version of the Charter for Public Involvement & Engagement from the NIHR (National Institute for Health and Care Research) School for Public Health Research (SPHR) Public Mental Health programme. The Charter shares best practice for fully embedding public involvement and engagement into research, and aims to ensure public perspectives are integral to decision-making in public mental health research and research outcomes. It was co-created by McPin, members of the NIHR SPHR Public Mental Health programme, and public partners. The McPin Foundation reposted this
Today we have launched a report with University of York and York St. John University on ‘Right Care, Right Person’, aimed at reducing avoidable police involvement in incidents where there is a mental health need. It explores health & care staff views on its implementation. Are you looking for new ways to apply your leadership and governance expertise, alongside your mental health/mental health research experience? There is still time to apply to become a new McPin Trustee, the deadline for applications has been extended to Monday 9th December 9am. Not quite right for you at this time? Be sure to repost and share with those who might be. See Job opportunities, "Trustees" https://lnkd.in/gfCHmpFT
Could you be our new trustee? We're on the hunt for new trustees to join us in putting lived experience at the heart of mental health research! In the role you would be responsible, alongside other members of the board, for the effective running of the charity. This leadership is vital and at the McPin Foundation we ensure the trustee group is a visible and active part of the organisation. The board formally meets three times a year at the charity head office in London (and online - all meetings have a hybrid option). Trustees may also provide support in others ways such as chairing events, providing training to staff, sharing tools and template documents or offering to mentor/coach team members. If that sounds like it could be a good fit for you, find out more & apply here 👉 bit.ly/3PjUfNE UPDATED: Deadline is now Monday 9th December - don't miss out! #CharityTrustee #CharityJobs #MentalHealthResearch #MentalHealth

Earlier this week the new Mental Health Bill had its 2nd reading in the House of Lords. The idea is that the outdated Mental Health Act will be modernised to better support patients, treat them more humanely and address disparities. The bill aims to improve patient experiences, choice & autonomy, tackle racial discrimination & better support those with learning disabilities. While we are encouraged to see some of these proposals, we urge a holistic and transparent approach. We will be asking ourselves how our research can move us closer to better mental health for all, in light of the new Mental Health Bill.
