Highlights from Maria Gonella's Talk on Funding Green Industries Last week, our Managing Partner, Maria Gonella, delivered a thought-provoking speech at Westminster forum Projects on The Future of Funding and Investment to Support Green Industry Growth and Employment. Maria addressed critical challenges and opportunities for the green economy, emphasizing the importance of strategic funding and skills development to unlock growth and create meaningful employment opportunities. Here are some key takeaways: 🌍 Addressing the green skills gap: 60% of workers will require upskilling to transition into green roles. Without this, we risk delaying net-zero goals. ⚡ Scaling green initiatives: To meet 2030 climate targets, solar installations need to quintuple, and heat pump adoption must grow from 1% to 10% of UK homes. 📚 Education as the foundation: Maria emphasized the importance of vocational training, lifelong learning and greater diversity in green industries, particularly for women and underrepresented groups. As Maria powerfully stated: "Strategic funding is the foundation of green industry growth, but its true impact comes when it is combined with investments in education and skills development. Together, these efforts ensure that industries evolve alongside their workforce, creating a just and sustainable transition" Let's work together to address the green skills gap and drive sustainable growth! Other insightful speakers at the forum included: Sarah Kostense-Winterton, Jurga McCluskey, Jo Burgess, Dr Adam Read MBE, Dr Mandy Crawford-Lee FRSA, Matthew Adams, Stephen Barrett, James Milne and Lewis Cooper #sustainability #greeninvesting #nationalwealthfund #leadership #greenskills #wemfevents #greenindustries

That’s a wrap for #AoCConf2024! Day two opened with Becky Francis sharing highlights from the Curriculum and Assessment Review, with a focus on supporting students from disadvantaged backgrounds and ensuring a balanced curriculum that includes both academic and vocational pathways. We also celebrated the Good for Me, Good for FE 2024 Awards with David Hughes and Dr Sam Parrett CBE, recognizing the outstanding contributions colleges are making across the sector. These highlights only scratch the surface of what we took away from Association of Colleges Annual Conference 2024! Over two days, we gained new connections, valuable insights, and key takeaways to advance further education. The conference offered fantastic networking opportunities, inspiring sessions, and insights that we’ll carry forward as we work with our partners to drive positive change in the sector.
