We are delighted to be one of ten successful organisations, chosen by The Robertson Trust, to be awarded a grant to help improve job design and flexibility in frontline roles, in Scotland. We have a long history of supporting flexible job creation in Scotland, and put forward a bid through the Trust’s Work Pathways open call, which challenged charities and social enterprises to design ideas to deliver big change, to help tackle in-work poverty in Scotland over the next 3-5 years. Our project aims to change the way in which roles in key low wage industries are designed and advertised. It will unlock more secure/increased hours and progression opportunities for low paid workers and those facing structural barriers to fair work, by working with employers in target sectors to open up more of their vacancies to flexible working options and predictable hours. We are excited to start on this programme in the new year. Lyndsay Fraser Robertson, The Robertson Trust Programme Officer says: "These awards are designed to support work over the next 3-5 years that has a high potential for delivering significant, long-term impact on poverty and trauma. Each of the ten projects funded through this open call really brought this potential to life and we are excited to work alongside these partners to maximise their impact and learn what works well and less well.” Clare McNeil, Director of Policy and Innovation at Timewise says: "We are delighted to have secured this significant grant from the Robertson Trust to work with employers to influence the way in which roles in key low wage industries are designed and advertised. We know that a lack of flexible and predictable work is a key factor in preventing people from both securing and progressing in work. Tackling this is essential for reducing working poverty over the longer-term." #Scotland #TacklingInWorkPoverty

We’re delighted our partnership with Save the Children Scotland has secured funding from The Robertson Trust to deliver research on young mothers’ employment. Our work will help identify and address the causes of young mothers’ in-work poverty. https://buff.ly/3ZWfJWf Despite experiencing high levels of in-work poverty, young mothers are routinely invisible in policy responses, and in employer efforts to improve job quality and fair work. Better understanding of how the current system traps young mothers in in-work poverty is the critical first step. Approaches to systems change must be evidenced & our research will generate recommendations for policymakers and employers. We’ll also deliver a campaign that will empower young mothers with information on their rights to mitigate the disenfranchisement that the current system sustains. Women’s poverty is indivisible from children’s poverty, so our work will help to reduce the trauma and harm that is caused by growing up in poverty. We’re excited to get started and create change for young mothers and their families.
