    Submissions for the 2025 Bhattacharyya Award are now open. Now in its fifth year, the award recognises the very best of academia-industry collaboration across all disciplines, with the winning team receiving a prize of £25,000 🏆 What are we looking for? 💥 Impactful collaborations that have driven innovative research to address complex challenges and create real-world benefits. 🤝 Partnerships of at least five years that are still active at the point of submission and have spanned multiple projects, grants and activities. The award is open to submissions from all UK universities and colleges. Submissions are encouraged from the social sciences, humanities, natural sciences, medical sciences and biological sciences, as well as engineering.   • NEW: Academy welcomes new Formula 1 Diversity & Inclusion Charter The Royal Academy of Engineering today welcomes the announcement of a formal Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) charter, which has been agreed and signed by Formula 1, all ten teams, and the sport’s governing body, the FIA – Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile. Academy CEO Hayaatun Sillem says "It is a key step in F1’s ongoing efforts to improve access and performance, and we believe it will be a catalyst for even more positive impact and cross-sport working."   • Our new MacRobert Award judges' blogs take us behind the scenes of their visits to each of the 2024 finalists. The judges had an opportunity to meet the teams, explore their facilities and see their innovations in action. Read about each of the visits to the finalists: 🌀 2024 winners Google DeepMind gave the judges a live demonstration of GraphCast, where they were “impressed by GraphCast’s ability to deliver highly localised, accurate forecasts in under 45 seconds- significantly faster than traditional methods”. 2024 judges visit blog series. Read it now.
  • Last week we held our first Awardee Excellence Community Conference. Thank you to the many awardees, Fellows and friends who joined us in Manchester to celebrate all things #AwardeeExcellence, make new connections, gain new insights and share their experiences as members of the Community. Attendees enjoyed many sessions including awardee-led lightning talks, workshops and panel discussions that covered topics including peer-to-peer mentoring, personal assistive robotics, critical materials, public engagement and commercialising emerging technologies. Guests also had the chance to explore an exhibition showcasing work from Community members, including carbon capture technology, 3D printing for sustainable manufacture, engineering in the film industry and building sustainable societies through Minecraft. The Awardee Excellence Community supports our awardees to exchange ideas and share expertise and insights with like-minded individuals from across our awards, prizes and grants.   • Last Wednesday, we celebrated National Engineering Day with another exciting Innovation Late event. Attendees explored cutting-edge technology through live demonstrations and interactive exhibits, including: 🎵 Singing plants from the University of Nottingham 🤖 Mini robots from Ice Nine - Mobile robotic solutions 👓 Augmented reality headsets from Atlantic Productions 🍭 Edible mist from Lick Me I'm Delicious ...and so much more. Guests were also inspired by talks from Joshua Macabuag FREng MICE , Lucy Hughes, Professor Clive Buckberry, MBE, FREng, Navjot Sawhney, and Orr Yarkoni.
