What are the latest #drone capabilities realising #lifesaving for our emergency services? Drones hold immense lifesaving potential - transforming emergency response by enhancing #situationalawareness, locating #missingpersons, and delivering #criticalequipment. However, realising these capabilities at scale in the UK presents critical challenges. Check out our paper now (link in comments) - gaining insight into eight case studies of leading UK projects and the valuable lessons to accelerate routine, lifesaving Beyond Visual Line of Sight operations. #drones #bvlos #emergencyservices #insight #collaboration
The Thunderbird Project
Emergency and Relief Services
A charity (SC051670) enabling emergency service drones to operate BVLOS, providing life-critical support.
About us
Our Mission: Enabling Emergency Service drones to operate Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS), providing life-critical support. Our Vision: The world has witnessed incredible advances in drone capability over recent years. However, there are vital areas of emergency response where this technology could deliver more: providing invaluable situational awareness to mission commanders, helping to locate an increasing number of high-risk missing persons, or delivering medical aid to casualties more quickly than conventional means – saving time where every minute counts. There’s no doubt that eventually all these capabilities will develop, but this project is founded on the passionate belief that by bringing emergency services together through a multi-agency, systems approach, with no commercial or institutional bias, we can accelerate this journey – saving more lives, sooner and with few resources. Visit our website for more details. The Thunderbird Project is supported by independent consultancies Ajuno and Frazer-Nash, who provide technical strategy and systems integration.

Saving whales from beaches, digital twins of grapes, integrated robotics to access every part of our critical infrastructure…. A few novel applications alongside discussions of UK and global government policy and the regulatory routes to keep accelerating the impact of drones with a community of inspiring people. #Airwards #Ajuno
Let me drop superlatives for a moment and simply say - thank you to everyone to came to our Airwards event last night at Knotel - Old Sessions House. To everyone who came (or those who couldn't but registered) YOU are the community. Every single one of you, your stories, your use cases, your work, your passions make possible our work in championing you all. It's a huge privilege to be able to be part of your journeys as we forge a path together for the drone industry. Thanks to OSH for accommodating my daughter and youngest member due to some last min childcare challenges.

Thank you to all those who contributed to such a productive #Thunderbird Steering Committee last Thursday, particularly guests from key supporting industry sectors of insurance, telecomms and safety management - Moonrock Drone Insurance, BT Group and Ajuno. These will be critical #Thunderbird's mission of enabling #lifesaving #BVLOS for emergency services & SAR. Key #takeaways include highlighting strong alignment across different emergency service data goals, highlighting strong benefit from data sharing, with three focus #opportunities identified (below). Get in touch if you want to be involved with The Thunderbird Project going forward.

Thirty-Two Miles. Twelve Hours. One Day. The Great Saunter is an epic urban hike organised by Shorewalkers Inc. Each year on the first Saturday of May, the Saunter brings 2,500 walkers together to circumnavigate Manhattan, staying as close to the shoreline as possible. This year, another group of intrepid adventurers took on the Great Saunter. Their connection? John Bullough. 40 of John’s close family and friends came together in New York on Saturday 4th May to take part in the challenge on behalf of The Thunderbird Project. So far, they have raised an incredible £18,000 for their efforts 🎉 The donation page is still open if you'd like to learn more about the Great Saunter and the work The Thunderbird Project is doing: https://bit.ly/3wFWS5T A huge thank you to everyone who took part; you have helped to ensure that our initiative becomes a lasting testament to John's legacy. #Charity | #Fundraising | #TheThunderbirdProject | #GreatSaunter2024

400km in 8 days... Please join us in wishing the best to David Fergusson, who is taking on the Cape Wrath Ultra Marathon on behalf of The Thunderbird Project. The Cape Wrath Ultra begins in Fort William this Sunday, and participants have 8 days to complete a gruelling 400km journey through the Scottish Highlands. This is an incredible feat for even the most experienced of ultra runners, but David has never taken part in any formal running event before! David was a close friend of John Bullough, and he is using the race as an opportunity to raise awareness and funding for The Thunderbird Project. He has already raised nearly £3,000, which is a monumental effort. If you'd like to support David in his incredible (but crazy) challenge, here's the donation link: https://bit.ly/3ymeSCN And if you'd like to learn more about his story, here's an article from The Herald Scotland: https://bit.ly/3QJ1W0c Good luck, David - your feet and lungs will need it! #Charity | #Fundraising | #UltraMarathon | #TheThunderbirdProject Image: ©Cape Wrath Ultra & No Limits Photography
