When Harry and Stephen started Clerksroom in 2001, it was with a singular goal: to modernise the traditional chambers model, whilst still honoring the historic esteem of the Bar. The notion was simple: by developing software to connect barristers with clients, Clerksroom would reduce case management costs, bypass the need for physical rooms, and in turn, allow barristers to determine their own working patterns and fees. Today, The Barrister Group — Clerksroom's evolution — hosts over 250 barristers, 8 silks, and 40 in-house staff. With specialists in seven areas of law as well as a separate, direct-to-public subsidiary service, it's safe to say the group has come along way since its early days — with still more growth to come!

We are delighted to announce that our charity of the year for 2025 is Support SEND Kids. Support SEND Kids helps children with SEND — Special Educational Needs or Disabilities — access the education and opportunities to which they have a legal right. By bringing together SEND families, lawyers, schools and local authorities to exchange questions and answers and to share free guidance, they’re improving access to justice in the SEND community — which is exactly why we’ve chosen to support them in the year ahead. There is currently an increased focus on enforcing outstanding CIL liabilities, and with a sharp rise in the cost of building materials, many developers still fail to appreciate that payment of the CIL liability is triggered by commencement of the development — and will continue to be liable even if the development is not completed. Property law specialist Christopher Cant explains in his latest article.

Organisations and companies are, increasingly, facing pressure to align with Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) standards in their sustainability reporting. To operate sustainably, however, priority must be given to handling unsustainable behaviours in a sustainable way — and hostility in the workplace is no exception. Dr Georgina Tsagas, mediator at The Barrister Group, dissects workplace bullying and its connection to #ESG standards in our latest article. Read the full piece: https://lnkd.in/ebpS-vVa
