Top 10 Myths About the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) The CSRD is changing the game for sustainability reporting across Europe, but there’s still a lot of confusion about what it really means for businesses. Let’s bust some myths! 💥👇 1. Myth: CSRD only applies to large companies. Truth: Listed SMEs and even non-EU companies with significant EU operations must comply too! 2. Myth: It’s just about environmental issues. Truth: The CSRD covers the full ESG spectrum—environmental, social, and governance—from carbon emissions to diversity and anti-corruption. 3. Myth: You can use any sustainability framework. Truth: CSRD requires companies to use the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS)—a standardized EU framework for ESG reporting. 4. Myth: SMEs don’t have to report. Truth: Listed SMEs must comply by 2026, though with reduced reporting requirements and a grace period. 5. Myth: Only financially material issues matter. Truth: CSRD introduces double materiality—you need to report on how your business impacts the environment and society, too! 6. Myth: It’s just about creating reports. Truth: Compliance means integrating ESG into your entire business strategy, risk management, and operations, not just ticking a reporting box. 7. Myth: You only need to report on direct operations. Truth: Companies must cover their entire value chain—including suppliers and downstream impacts. 8. Myth: We can wait until 2025 to prepare. Truth: You need to start collecting data in 2024 to meet the 2025 reporting deadline. 9. Myth: No audits required. Truth: Third-party assurance is mandatory, starting with limited assurance and moving to reasonable assurance over time. 10. Myth: It’s just a regulatory burden. Truth: CSRD is an opportunity to boost transparency, attract ESG-focused investors, and build long-term value through sustainable practices. 💡 Are you prepared for the CSRD? Now’s the time to plan, integrate ESG into your core strategy, and lead the way toward a sustainable future. 🌍 #Sustainability #ESG #CSRD #CorporateResponsibility #EURegulations #SustainabilityReporting #Leadership #ValueChain #ClimateAction #ESGStrategy

The shift from a linear to a circular economy means a fundamental rethink about value, resources, and long-term resilience. This article breaks down the critical differences between these models, but one line really stood out: “For Miele, long-term thinking means offering customers a ‘20 Years Promise.’” Long-term thinking and circularity go hand in hand. It’s not just about reducing waste; it’s about building trust and creating products that last. More and more businesses are embracing this approach with products designed for longevity, systems that regenerate, and companies that take real responsibility for the life / next life of their products. As sustainability becomes a growing priority for consumers and regulators alike, embracing circularity is no longer optional—it’s expected. The Spaceship Academy Ltd. #ClimateWeekNYC 2024 was quite a week. For me, personally, the highlight was definitely the chance to spend time IRL with colleagues, friends and partners I mostly communicate with via screens. There is too much empty talk around sustainability challenges, but there are so many I reconnected with this week tirelessly committed to doing the work that matters. 🌍 On a hopeful note, there were some definite themes this year that emerged: 1️⃣ Action Over Ambition: The urgency is undeniable—and ambitious long-term goals are insufficient. It’s time for measurable, scalable actions that deliver real, tangible progress. Today. 2️⃣ Collaboration is Key: Governments, businesses, and civil society must work together. It was inspiring to witness so many partnerships driving innovative solutions across energy, infrastructure, and policy frameworks. 3️⃣ Tech for Good: AI is emerging as a powerful force in climate solutions, from optimizing energy grids to predicting environmental risks. Yet, the sustainability of AI itself remains complex. Responsible AI adoption is essential to ensuring its net-positive impact on our planet. 4️⃣ Youth Stepping Up: The future of the climate movement is bold and resilient. Young leaders are at the forefront, driving critical conversations on equity, climate justice, and transparency—reshaping both policy and corporate strategies for a more inclusive future. 5️⃣ Upskilling for Sustainability: One key theme that emerged was the urgent need for professional upskilling. To meet global sustainability goals, professionals across all sectors must enhance their knowledge of green technologies, sustainable practices, and climate strategies. The workforce of tomorrow must be equipped not only with technical skills but also a deep understanding of sustainability principles to drive meaningful change. The momentum is real, but so are the challenges ahead. As we push forward, we must keep the dialogue open but centered on actions. At The Spaceship Academy Ltd., we’re as energised as ever to embedding sustainability into organizational DNA for real, lasting impact.
