Thinking of Oscar
Hospitals and Health Care
Bringing the future of healthcare to children. Our #NotMiniAdults Podcast🎙 available on iTunes, Spotify & Buzzsprout
About us
Thinking of Oscar was set up in memory of Oscar Cole, who died suddenly in June 2014 aged just 16 months. Thinking of Oscar started off with the aim of supporting children and their families whilst in hospital care by funding projects and innovation over and above that supplied by the NHS. We have learned along the way that there is a void between the funding and focus needed within paediatric healthcare. 2019 marked the 5th anniversary of the charity and the 5th anniversary of Oscar's death and with it we created a new mission: to 'Bring the Future of Healthcare to Children', through innovation and the use and investment in digital technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), data science and machine learning. To date Thinking of Oscar has raised in excess of £350,000 and has funded projects across a number of children's hospitals around the UK. Listen & Subscribe to our Not Mini Adults Podcast

A couple of weeks ago David Cole, MBA joined Leicester Hospitals Charity and one of our clincal advisors Dr Damian Roland at their #BossBreakOut charity fundraising event. A team of business leaders from across the East Midlands were 🔐 locked-in 🔐 to a Pop-Up Shop at the Leicester Haymarket Shopping Centre with a goal of raising £1,000 each to 'break-out' of the unit. They were raising money to support the purchase of Smileyscope VR Headsets for the Leicester Children's Hospital. They absolutely smashed their target of £11,000 by raising just shy of £24,000 🥰 🤩 . The VR headsets will help children coming into the emergency department and support them during difficult procedures like MRI/CT scans and blood tests, making their hospital visits less daunting and stressful. Thinking of Oscar was deligted to be able to donate the first Smileyscope headset once the first £2,000 was raised and help demonstate how they worked on the day. Well done and thank you to everyone involved! 2024 marks the 10th anniversary of Oscar's death. Since the inception of Thinking of Oscar we have used the annual Blenheim Palace Triathlon (in Oxfordshire) as one of our key fundraising events and in Oscar's memory we would like to invite as many friends, family and supporters as possible to join us by swimming, cycling and running around the beautiful Blenheim Palace estate. Through this event alone we have raised over £250,000 pounds, which have helped to fund new technologies to help children and their care teams whilst in hospital care across the country. You can read more about the impact that our work has had here: https://lnkd.in/eSfcNkBX. 🙏 The Triathlon is taking place on June 1st and 2nd 2024 and we have charity places available for anyone that would like to don the Thinking of Oscar 💛 yellow and 💙 blue kit and challenge themselves to complete, what is always a very 'new to triathlon' friendly course. You can choose to take part and complete the 750m swim 🏊♂️ 🏊♀️ , 20km cycle 🚴♂️ 🚴♀️ and 5km run 🏃♂️ 🏃♀️ on your own, or as part of a relay team. For those of you that like to be out in nature all weekend there is also the Weekend Warrior 💪 where competitors aim to complete as many triathlons as they can over the course of the weekend. Please think about joining us or sponsoring our founders David and Hannah Cole (we will put a link in the comments) or put it on your calendar for next year. https://lnkd.in/gfPUCGAC
