Today is the day the The Outstanding Security Performance Awards (OSPAs) winners will be announced in the UK! We were delighted to be #shortlisted for the Outstanding #Security #Consultant Award, and we feel especially proud to be celebrating among such strong competition. We are sad to miss the event in London. Unfortunately we can't attend because we are deployed this week in Edinburgh. Last month, our Managing Director, Andy Davis (MSc., CSyP, FSyI, CPP) joined Joseph Marshall in an online workshop to outline the new ARA #Security #Guidance Document which Andy produced for the #ARA in 2024. It was great to see so many sector professionals eager to learn and understand the #security best practices for their working roles at #culturalvenues. By using such documentation and other resources, a #proactive attitude can be adopted rather than a reactive response to any incidents that may occur. Following the session, we were delighted to receive the below letter of thanks from Jill Moretto, Chair, Section of Business Records at ARA. A 16th-century painting by #Renaissance artist #Moretto has been #damaged after a visitor in the northern city of Brescia, #Italy tripped and fell upon the valuable artwork. The #painting had been placed in the Santa Giulia Museum as part of a Renaissance #artworks #exhibition. The work which dates between 1522 and 1524 is a double-sided piece. Reports say it had not been hung on a wall but was displayed along the exhibition route, without protective glass, allowing visitors to see both sides of the work. However, not having proactive protection measures in place can result in incidents like this one. Authorities have said that at least 30 people have died and a further 60 were injured in a crowd crush at the Kumnbh Mela festival in India. Officials had predicted that up to 100 million people would attend the bathing day at the Kumbh Mela, one of the world's biggest religious festivals. Reporters have described the scenes of 'absolute chaos' at the river bank, with clothes, shoes, blankets, and backpacks strewn on the ground as crowds tried to escape. A lack of a security presence and an increased number of people in attendance are the main causes of crowd crush incidents which can cause serious injury, and in this instance, death. Another notable crowd crush was the Seoul Halloween incident on the 29th of October 2022 where 159 people were killed and 196 were injured. Find out more: https://lnkd.in/eX9Z32bB
