  • Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are driving a new era of innovation in battery technology. With exceptional conductivity, strength, and flexibility, CNTs are ideal for enhancing energy storage systems like those in electric vehicles and portable electronics. However, challenges like scalable production and poor dispersibility have limited their application — until now. Researchers at Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute Nano Hybrid Technology Research Center have developed a technology for producing highly dispersible CNT powder. This technology addresses the challenge of CNTs’ poor dispersibility and enables more sustainable battery manufacturing. At TrimTabs, we’re excited to see how advancements like these are shaping the future of energy storage. Learn more about how CNTs are transforming batteries: https://lnkd.in/dwrgPr8r

  • When will carbon nanotubes (CNTs) make space elevators a reality? The concept of a space elevator – a tether stretching from Earth to a geostationary orbit – has captivated imaginations for decades. It promises to revolutionise space travel, reducing costs and eliminating the need for rocket propulsion. Ultra-strong and lightweight, CNTs may be the key to making this vision a reality! CNTs offer unparalleled tensile strength, flexibility, and durability, and innovators like Japan’s Obayashi Corp are testing their potential. With CNT tethers, they aim to build a 22,000-mile elevator capable of transporting people to the International Space Station in just 2.5 hours! At TrimTabs, we’re excited to see how CNT technology is powering ambitious projects like this, shaping a sustainable and accessible future for space exploration. • The future of medical imaging could rely on carbon nanotubes (CNTs)! A recent study from Harvard Medical School reveals that CNT-based X-ray tubes could be the key to safer, more sustainable medical diagnostics. Compared to traditional filament X-ray tubes, CNTs are 75% smaller, 50% lighter, and consume 17% less energy – without sacrificing image quality. Even more impressive is that CNT-based sources reduced radiation exposure by 44% during continuous imaging, making them an ideal choice for repeat scans in disease monitoring or screenings. Their durability and environmentally friendly manufacturing process further highlight their potential to transform healthcare worldwide, including in developing nations. At TrimTabs, we are continuously inspired by how CNT technology creates innovative, sustainable solutions for patients, professionals, and the planet. • Can carbon nanotubes (CNTs) revolutionise how we stay warm? JARTOO’s recent launch of the world’s first CNT-based heated blanket on Kickstarter represents an innovative approach to home comfort. Unlike traditional electric blankets, which pose safety risks and consume significant power, the CNT-based design heats up in just one minute, delivers uniform warmth, operates on a low-voltage 24V system, and consumes just 70 Watts of power. The result? A safer, more energy-efficient, and sustainable way to keep cosy during cold nights. At TrimTabs, we’re excited to see CNT technology transforming everyday household items into smarter, greener solutions. • Could carbon nanotubes (CNTs) accelerate the clean energy transition towards a sustainable, electrified future? In a recent report, experts from the Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI) highlighted how electrification and decarbonisation are transforming energy use. Most of today’s fossil fuel energy is wasted before reaching end users – a staggering two-thirds lost in conversion, distribution, and consumption. Electrified systems, however, can supply the same energy services with a fraction of the primary energy required. Here’s where CNTs shine. With their high durability and conductivity, CNTs can enhance the energy density of EV batteries, potentially reducing weight and extending lifespan. They’re also ideal for improving grid efficiency by minimising losses in transmission and storage. At TrimTabs, we’re excited to see CNT technology’s role in enabling this sustainable shift. • Could carbon nanotubes (CNTs) hold the key to scaling quantum computing sustainably? Quantum computing promises transformative advances across AI, cybersecurity, pharmaceuticals, and more, but scaling up remains a challenge. Current quantum computers experience error increases with each added qubit, hindering the development of large-scale computers. This is where CNTs come in. Their unique properties make them ideal candidates for stabilising qubits and reducing errors in quantum operations. At a recent talk at #Q2B24 Tokyo, C12 CEO Pierre Desjardins highlighted how CNTs could enable scalable quantum systems by shielding qubits from interference like charge noise. TrimTabs’ CNT production process shows that this could be done sustainably, raising the hope for quantum computing to ultimately help reduce carbon footprints in high-demand fields such as AI. We’re excited about CNTs' potential to pave the way for accessible, large-scale quantum computing, enabling it to address some of the most complex challenges in drug discovery, climate solutions, and beyond. • Carbon nanotubes could be the key to building sustainable extraterrestrial habitats! This week, we’ve been pondering a study published in Wiley's journal for nanoscience and nanotechnology, Small, where researchers at AMBER Centre developed a method that uses CNTs to transform Lunar and Martian soil into extremely strong, low-density bricks. These CNT-enhanced materials have a compressive strength of up to 100 million pascals, making them as robust as granite. This approach could transform extraterrestrial construction by:  - Reducing energy consumption by enabling the production of bricks at near room temperature.  - Producing advanced building materials that monitor their own structural integrity through built-in sensors.  - Utilising local resources as much as possible minimises the need to transport heavy materials from Earth. We’re super excited about the prospect of CNTs to make space habitats a reality, supporting the development of extraterrestrial bases on the moon, Mars, and beyond. • Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) could revolutionise recycled plastics, offering a sustainable solution to the problem of mounting plastic waste! A recent article in Technology Networks outlines how researchers at IMDEA Nanociencia in Madrid have developed a method to incorporate CNTs into recycled plastics, significantly enhancing their strength and durability. This breakthrough could transform recycled plastics from a weak, limited-use material into a robust, infinitely recyclable resource. By improving the mechanical integrity of recycled plastics, we could see:  - Lighter, stronger materials for manufacturing - Increased value and utility of recycled plastics - A significant boost to the circular economy At TrimTabs, we’re excited about the potential of CNTs to drive sustainable solutions. This research aligns with our mission to create innovative materials that promote a circular economy, and we can’t wait to see how CNT-reinforced recycled plastics could reshape industries and contribute to a greener future.   Check out the full article to learn more: https://lnkd.in/drYwsj7v

  • Data centres are becoming increasingly essential to our daily lives, and they are being recognised as such. Data centres are set to be classified as critical national infrastructure, putting them alongside services like healthcare and energy. This means they will have more support to keep them up and running during major incidents. However, despite growing demand and substantial investments, data centres face significant challenges. One major issue is the limited availability of copper to meet their wiring needs. Additionally, data centres consume huge amounts of energy, raising serious sustainability concerns. At TrimTabs, we believe that CNTs could represent a game-changing solution. With their high electrical conductivity, CNTs could replace copper wiring, while our circular production process, which transforms waste plastic into CNTs, would make data centres more sustainable. We can’t wait to see how CNTs could help future-proof critical data centres. Check out the full article to learn more: https://lnkd.in/e6CdT_ga
