Could carbon nanotubes (CNTs) accelerate the clean energy transition towards a sustainable, electrified future? In a recent report, experts from the Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI) highlighted how electrification and decarbonisation are transforming energy use. Most of today’s fossil fuel energy is wasted before reaching end users – a staggering two-thirds lost in conversion, distribution, and consumption. Electrified systems, however, can supply the same energy services with a fraction of the primary energy required. Here’s where CNTs shine. With their high durability and conductivity, CNTs can enhance the energy density of EV batteries, potentially reducing weight and extending lifespan. They’re also ideal for improving grid efficiency by minimising losses in transmission and storage. At TrimTabs, we’re excited to see CNT technology’s role in enabling this sustainable shift.
