  • Meet the Tŷ Pawb-based company behind this new hit BBC hit series! 📺 Tŷ’r Ddraig (Dragon House) are based in one of our rentable studio spaces. They were recently commissioned by BBC Daytime to produce a new 16 part series, Lost and Found in the Lakes. The series sees presenter Helen Skelton leading a team of experts to search for precious items lost by members of the public in the Lake District. Tŷ’r Ddraig’s Creative Director, Ben Smith explains : “We actually got the first set of viewing figures in from the launch and they are brilliant. 1.5 million viewers of episode 1. Which means it won its timeslot across all channels and was 22% up on the BBC slot average. Overall that’s really good for a new series launch.” “I lead the company and was born and raised in Wrexham. I’ve worked in TV for nearly 25 years but have always wanted to set up a production company in North Wales and help grow the creative community here. “We knew S4C wanted more content produced out of NE Wales and the positivity and extra profile around Welcome to Wrexham also helped to convince our backers this was the right time. Now also it feels like the right time to build on the growing creative corridor between North Wales and North-West England in the way Cardiff / Bristol / London has further south.” “Although all our filming locations were in The Lake District, as a Wales/BBC Nations based production we recruited as many crew members from North Wales as possible and postproduction (the edit) took place at Rondo Media in Caernarfon.” “For the 16 episodes we filmed for 3 months on location in The Lake District – working with local experts for the searches that we did in the series and working with a crew of around 8-10 people.” “Getting such a big (16 episode) commission was a particular success for us because the production company was only launched in June 2023. We’re part of the wider Workerbee and Banijay group – the World’s largest independent production group – who have backed and supported us to set up in Wales.” You can watch all the episodes of Lost and Found in the Lakes on iPlayer now! #Wrexham

  • Cwrdd â’r cwmni o Tŷ Pawb y tu ôl i’r gyfres boblogaidd newydd hon gan y BBC! 📺 Mae Tŷ’r Ddraig wedi’i leoli yn un o’n gofodau stiwdio y gellir ei rentu. Cawsant eu comisiynu’n ddiweddar gan BBC Daytime i gynhyrchu cyfres 16 rhan newydd, Lost and Found in the Lakes. Mae'r gyfres yn gweld y cyflwynydd Helen Skelton yn arwain tîm o arbenigwyr i chwilio am eitemau gwerthfawr a gollwyd gan aelodau'r cyhoedd yn Ardal y Llynnoedd. Mae Cyfarwyddwr Creadigol Tŷ’r Ddraig, Ben Smith yn esbonio : “Fe wnaethon ni dderbyn y set gyntaf o ffigurau gwylio o’r lansiad ac maen nhw’n wych. 1.5 miliwn o wylwyr pennod 1. Sy'n golygu ei fod wedi ennill ei slot amser ar draws pob sianel ac roedd 22% yn uwch na chyfartaledd slotiau'r BBC. “Fi sy’n arwain y cwmni a chefais fy ngeni a’m magu yn Wrecsam. Rydw i wedi gweithio ym myd teledu ers bron i 25 mlynedd ond rydw i wastad wedi bod eisiau sefydlu cwmni cynhyrchu yng Ngogledd Cymru a helpu i dyfu’r gymuned greadigol yma. “Roedden ni’n gwybod bod S4C eisiau mwy o gynnwys yn cael ei gynhyrchu allan o ogledd-ddwyrain Cymru ac roedd y positifrwydd a’r proffil ychwanegol o amgylch Croeso i Wrecsam hefyd wedi helpu i argyhoeddi ein cefnogwyr mai dyma’r amser iawn. Nawr hefyd mae’n teimlo fel yr amser iawn i adeiladu ar y coridor creadigol cynyddol rhwng Gogledd Cymru a Gogledd-orllewin Lloegr yn y ffordd y mae Caerdydd / Bryste / Llundain ymhellach i’r de.” “Er bod ein holl leoliadau ffilmio yn Ardal y Llynnoedd, fel cynhyrchiad sy’n seiliedig ar Gymru/BBC y Gwledydd fe wnaethom recriwtio cymaint o aelodau criw o Ogledd Cymru â phosibl a chynhaliwyd yr ôl-gynhyrchu (y golygiad) yn Rondo Media yng Nghaernarfon.” “Ar gyfer yr 16 pennod buom yn ffilmio am 3 mis ar leoliad yn Ardal y Llynnoedd – gan weithio gydag arbenigwyr lleol ar y chwiliadau a wnaethom yn y gyfres a gweithio gyda chriw o tua 8-10 o bobl.” “Roedd cael comisiwn mor fawr (16 pennod) yn llwyddiant arbennig i ni oherwydd dim ond ym mis Mehefin 2023 y lansiwyd y cwmni cynhyrchu. Rydym yn rhan o grŵp ehangach Workerbee and Banijay – grŵp cynhyrchu annibynnol mwyaf y Byd – sydd wedi cefnogi a ein cefnogi i sefydlu yng Nghymru.”

Diolch o galon i Tŷ Pawb am ddewis fy narn 'Lifesize at 30' ar gyfer eich arddangosfa agored 💜 noson lyfli o ddathlu. This piece is a lifesized(ish) self portrait celebrating my 30th birthday! It was inspired my my first brief at University of Brighton 10 years ago, which was to create a life-sized self portrait to introduce ourselves to our new classmates. I may post it as a throwback soon! 10 years on, I wanted to revisit this idea, and challenge myself by going even bigger (from 9 A1 panels, to 12!) and by painting myself in a physical space. Was inspired by Matisse's red studio on a visit to the Moma in 2023, from seeing this piece again I know I had to paint myself in my studio. I'm really proud to be part of this wonderful exhibition, and grateful to the team at Tŷ Pawb who have supported me tremendously over the years 😊✨

🌟 Strategic Development Days 🌟 Last week, our team gathered in Tŷ Pawb Wrecsam for an inspiring away day focused on strategy development and stakeholder mapping. It was the first time since starting my role that I was able to meet the Board, which was fantastic. So good to hear from different people's expertise and perspectives. Together, we have been collaborating on identifying Adnodd's key focus areas and potential outcomes for our first Strategic Plan, set to be published in summer 2025. This plan will guide our work over the next five years, ensuring we remain relevant and responsive to the needs of the Welsh education sector. Our sessions included: 💡 a top-level look at our developing strategic aims 👁️🗨️ focusing on approaches to user experience 🗺 exploring stakeholder mapping and relationships management 😎 familiarisation of the use of VR headsets for education 🎽 a morning 5km run for those who wanted to! Thanks to everyone for your generosity in sharing your insight and ideas. The Design Commission for Wales partnered with Land Studio Ltd for an event looking at the future of rural and urban communities in North Wales. The event, which was held at Tŷ Pawb in #Wrexham, explored the potential for a place-led, people-focused approach to help shape the region’s future and to capture wider benefits. There were a number of speakers including Simon Richards and Kate Richards, Vicky Payne, a strategic planning and urban design consultant, David Rudlin, Urban Design Director at BDP, Clare Wilks, director at LDA Design and Karel Williams, Emeritus Professor at the University of Manchester. Also speaking at the event were Ruthin Town Councillor Gavin Harris and Andrew Harradine, Regeneration Lead at Wrexham County Borough Council. Andrew Harradine discussed the strategic context in North Wales and the work being undertaken to promote #placemaking in Wrexham. Gavin Harris explained how the Town Council and local community have developed a long-term strategy and Place Plan that has helped to secure significant investment and the delivery of a number of projects in Ruthin over the past 15 years. Land Studio’s Kate Richards, who is also Chair of the Wales branch of the Landscape Institute, talked about what defines North Wales, recent projects in the region and elsewhere, and how we can achieve #placemaking in rural North Wales, including in protected landscapes. David Rudlin and Vicky Payne, co-authors of the RIBA published book High Street, looked at how high streets and town centres can bounce back from the retail crisis, while Professor Karel Williams considered how tourism in North Wales can better benefit local communities. Simon Richards, who chaired the event and is also Joint Chair for the Design Commission for Wales, said: “It was a really good event and we had a great turn out with more than 60 attendees and some very interesting speakers. “It was great to get an event that was focussed on North Wales issues across a range of subjects from rural placemaking to Wrexham, County towns to community-based tourism. It was all very thought provoking and hopefully the start of further conversations on design and the issues that we work with in the region.” Claire Wilks of LDA Design said: "We have been helping on the regeneration of Bangor high street, which is starting to bounce back in exciting ways." https://lnkd.in/ezGjDXG3

Creating spaces where people can exercise, share, laugh, and relax! Yesterday I was speaking at ‘A Place Led Future for North Wales’ event organised by Design Commission for Wales and Land Studio Ltd in Tŷ Pawb in Wrexham. Welsh for ‘everybody’s house’, Tŷ Pawb is a dynamic conversion of the old Market into gallery spaces, theatre/performance space, meeting rooms, a bar, food court and market hall, home to 30 local independent businesses. It reminded me of Les Ateliers des Capucins in Brest (France) where I visited in July. This is a massively much bigger conversion of an old industrial building combining a ‘cosmic concept’ store, virtual reality space, cinema, climbing wall, workspaces, bookshop and loads of F&B. What both Tŷ Pawb and Les Ateliers des Capucins have in common are generous indoor public spaces. As winter approaches, these are very welcome….safe, sheltered, warm and flexible. Les Ateliers des Capucins promotes itself as the biggest covered public square in Europe for, it says, ‘Scooters, bikes, skateboards, picnics, birthday cakes… make La Place des Machine’s enormous 10,000 square metres your own and exercise, share, laugh, and relax. Open everyday at no cost, you are free to do (just about) anything!’ It felt very relevant to be speaking in Tŷ Pawb about LDA Design’s work on the regeneration of Bangor’s High Street. Here the multiples, Debenhams, H&M, New Look, Top Shop, Peacocks, Poundland, have all gone leaving cavernous spaces…it’s exciting to see how they’re now all being re-used for health, leisure, F&B, adult education, work spaces and living. But Bangor could still do with more cosmic, crazy, creative spaces where all ages can exercise, share, laugh, and relax. Photos: Tŷ Pawb and 3 of Les Ateliers des Capucins
