A new diagnostic test for womb cancer, developed by UCLB spinout Sola Diagnostics GmbH from research at UCL and Universität Innsbruck, has been registered with the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) allowing it to be placed on the market. UCLB’s 2025 Impact Report shows an increase of almost a quarter (24.5%) in academics seeking to commercialise their research, with a trend for AI-related technologies and nine spinouts founded over the 12 month period, an average of one every six weeks. On launching the Report, CEO Dr Anne Lane highlights UCL’s thriving innovation ecosystem – and says that the secret of its success lies in end-to-end support to enable researchers to become entrepreneurs building high growth businesses. The commercialisation ecosystem at UCLB allows UCL academics to create a global impact by bringing their ideas to market, helping to improve lives. The 2025 Impact Report demonstrates how UCLB works with UCL to address some of the world's biggest challenges, commercialising frontier technologies and deliver innovation for social impact.   The past year has seen some exciting progress for UCLB and it’s spinouts: • ‘Deep tech’ success story Oriole Networks’ $35m funding for its ‘photonic powered’ data processing technology. • Trace Neuroscience raising a record $101m Series A to treat neurodegenerative disease. • The $310m acquisition of Endomag, A Hologic Company, whose breast cancer surgery technologies have now helped more than 550,000 patients worldwide. • Autolus Therapeutics which gained US FDA approval for its ground-breaking treatment for lymphoblastic leukaemia.
