UCL-supported startup GutSee has joined the Zinc VC Programme! Co-founded by UCL alumna Dr Joanna Wiecek, GutSee is using cutting-edge molecular biology and artificial intelligence (AI) to transform the treatment of gut disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). The Zinc VC programme is aimed at exceptional founders solving challenges in the health of people and the planet. GutSee has also received £150,000 in investment from Zinc. The startup is currently based at the Hatchery startup incubator programme at BaseKX, UCL’s dedicated entrepreneurship hub, run by UCL Innovation & Enterprise. Joanna said: “UCL’s Hatchery incubator programme played a pivotal role in our growth, providing essential support during our earliest stages when we needed it most. Your Cue builds finger-based wearables to continuously monitor patients. Their technology allows patients’ vital readings, such as heart rate and blood pressure, to be monitored continuously so that any problems can be quickly dealt with. Dr Katerina Spranger, PhD 🇺🇦, a pioneering biomedical engineer and Founder & CEO of award-winning start-up, Oxford Heartbeat, has been honoured with a Purple Plaque in recognition of the Innovate UK Women in Innovation Award. 🎇 The plaque was unveiled at a special ceremony at the University of Oxford, where Dr Spranger completed a PhD in Biomedical Engineering, focusing on modelling implanted medical devices. London-based Oxford Heartbeat is bringing vital innovation to hospitals via its AI-powered medical device software, PreSize® Neurovascular, enabling cardiovascular surgeons to select the best implant for each patient and significantly improve patient outcomes. Reflecting on the award Dr Spranger said, “…I hope it will inspire future generations of women to start their own business or get involved in ground-breaking science research.” Innovate UK has supported Oxford Heartbeat for a decade.
