  • Exciting milestone for the REDUce 2 study! 🚀 We are thrilled to announce that the REDUce 2 study, aimed at enhancing the quality of life for patients with advanced chronic liver disease, has enrolled its 148th participant! 🎉 This brings us closer to our goal of 310 participants. Led by Professor Sumita Verma, Consultant Hepatologist at UHSussex, this trial spans over 30 sites in England, Wales, and Scotland. The study investigates whether long-term abdominal drains can reduce hospital visits and improve patients' quality of life by allowing them to stay at home. Participants are assigned to either a standard drain or a long-term drain, with fortnightly home visits from research teams. All participants also receive holistic support from a palliative care team. Professor Verma hopes this trial will lead to comprehensive guidelines for managing ascites as patients approach the end of life. Patients interested in participating in the study are encouraged to contact their local consultants. This research aims to significantly improve the lives of patients and their caregivers affected by advanced chronic liver disease. 💙

  • We were delighted to welcome Tom Rutland MP for East Worthing and Shoreham to Worthing Hospital this afternoon to spread festive cheer and thank our colleagues for all their hard work - and he even brought chocolates! 🍫 Worthing Hospital Director, Stephen Mardlin, greeted Tom and explained how the hospital gets busier over the festive period when other healthcare services are less available and the drive to get patients home for Christmas with their loved ones. During his visit, Tom spoke with our A&E team and learned that the department has seen over 100,000 patients since January, along with the additional pressures they face during the festive season. Tom also visited Beeding Ward, which cares for neonatal babies, and heard that six babies will be with us over Christmas. Parents can stay overnight to be close to their little ones and will receive a Christmas lunch. Additionally, Tom met our Emergency Floor team and visited Bluefin Ward for children and young people, where he spoke with parents about the care their children have received and their Christmas plans both in and out of the hospital. A big thank you to our fantastic colleagues who supported this visit and we look forward to welcoming Tom back in the new year. 💙

  • That’s a wrap for this year! 💻 After hosting over 30 Digital Roadshows, we've just finished our last one for 2024. Along the way, we've spoken with more than 1,000 staff members and hundreds of patients and visitors, collecting feedback and sharing details of our digitalisation journey. Chief Information Officer, Cara Williams said: “Involving our staff and patients every step of the way is not just a nice thing to have, it's essential to our success. Their insights and experiences are the backbone of our digital transformation, ensuring the solutions we implement work for everyone and put the patient first.” Thanks to the conversations we have had, we've gathered hundreds of requirements for our new Electronic Patient Record (EPR) system, which we'll be looking to go out to tender for in early 2025. Thanks to everyone who took the time to get involved and chat with us! And a huge well done to the team for their hard work in making this happen. 💙
