The UK Government has taken a significant step towards a more inclusive financial system by recommending the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) ‘have regard’ to financial inclusion: "...should have regard to reinforcing financial inclusion...to enable individuals to access the financial services and products they need to fully participate in the economy ..." As champions of a financially inclusive society, we proudly celebrate this milestone, the result of years of collaboration with dedicated campaigners. While the FCA has made progress on vulnerability and through the Consumer Duty, this expanded remit empowers the regulator to go further in addressing the challenges highlighted in our research (more on our website: https://lnkd.in/eiTJhrar). Financial exclusion not only weakens household resilience but also hampers the nation’s economic growth. This move is a critical step in building a stronger, more inclusive financial landscape. Our thanks to MoneySavingExpert.com, Money and Mental Health, Fair By Design, StepChange Debt Charity, Citizens Advice, Money Advice Trust, The Money Charity, MyBnk, Financial Inclusion for Scotland, Consumer Council for Northern Ireland, Responsible Finance, THE FINANCIAL INCLUSION CENTRE and The Finance Innovation Lab for supporting this campaign, and for the countless others who supported behind the scenes. #FinancialInclusion #FinancialExclusion

The Government has announced the first element of its National Financial Inclusion Strategy in the form of a requirement for the FCA to ‘have regard’ to financial inclusion. This is warmly welcomed by the Financial Inclusion Commission, which has campaigned alongside other organisations for many years for the FCA to be given this addition to its remit. The regulator has already increased its focus on vulnerability and exclusion but this expanded remit allows it to do even more. It’s a big step forward in tackling the exclusion, highlighted in our recent research reports, which not only diminishes household resilience and well-being but damages the prospects of growth in the economy as a whole.

We are proud to announce the release of our latest research on #FinancialInclusion, conducted by the team at CHASM - Centre on Household Assets and Savings Management and supported by Mastercard. This work highlights growing financial exclusion and offers solutions to bridge the gap, ensuring everyone has access to essential financial services. Our Chair, Chris Pond, said: "This research provides a baseline for a government-led National Financial Inclusion Strategy, which we hope is now imminent. The findings reveal a truly depressing picture of wasted human and economic potential which is holding Britain back. The Government needs to close the financial inclusion gap as a priority to unlock inclusive growth by drawing on the skills and ambitions of all citizens, including millions who are currently financially excluded."
