Cities can only truly thrive when they listen to their people and adapt to their evolving wants and needs. By carefully shaping new environments we can empower all who call them home, and we were pleased to see several major planning approvals announced across the City of London in the last week, sparking lasting change for our Capital. This includes our own 60 Gracechurch Street which will be transformed into a world-class, sustainable landmark. City Hall is also a great example of making change for the better. Stood empty since 2021, it is no longer fit for purpose but the new plans will breathe life into the building, transforming it into an animated hub for the community and its occupiers. 👏
Incredible transformation of London’s former City Hall gets planning approval to go ahead. ✔️ Plans to transform and re-purpose London’s former City Hall into shops, restaurants and offices have been approved this week. The former HQ of the Mayor of London and London Assembly, was designed by Lord Norman Foster. The building has been empty for the last three years, after mayor Sadiq Khan relocated offices. Plans for the repurposing of the building were submitted by its landlord St Martins Property Investments. Its new face-lift will involve its exterior glass shell removed and new balconies fitted. The ground floor will feature new cafes, shops and restaurants, with office space on the upper floors.

Black Doves is the superb new Netflix show starring Keira Knightley. USP London was delighted to assist with the locations, including using our offices as a Green Room during the Borough Market scenes. London is very much a co-star of the excellent spy-drama show, with lots of familiar backdrop locations across the South Bank and Westminster. Tuckerman Commercial is very pleased to have completed the vacant freehold sale of this 20,000 sq ft office building at 5-7 Mandeville Place W1, Marylebone, on behalf of Dusseldorf-based aik Real Estate, for its largest institutional real estate fund. The building, then the HQ of Dunhill, was purchased by aik in 2009 at a relatively low point in the market. The recent off-market sales process was highly targeted towards the development and owner-occupier market. Dr Stephen Hinsche of aik commented 'This first-class building is located in an excellent spot in the West End and is also architecturally impressive. Whilst the UK has faced challenges since Brexit, our investors are delighted with the result and with the investment team, who have created a return of 70% above the purchase price.' The property was sold to a subsidiary of a UK-based Family Office, who intend to convert it into luxury apartments. Guy Passey MRICS of Londonsuper acted for the purchaser. Mark Fisher of Tuckerman Commercial acted for the vendor, with joint agents Colliers.
