We were delighted to welcome Richard Parker, Mayor of the West Midlands, to Unipart Manufacturing Group last week for a working breakfast at our Institute for Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering (AME). The informal setting provided an excellent opportunity for regional business leaders to engage directly with the Mayor—sharing insights, listening to his vision, and discussing the region's future. Our Managing Director, Carol Rose Burke, was particularly encouraged by the Mayor's focus on skills development and transitioning jobs from traditional industries to new technologies. It's inspiring to see a commitment for collaboration across academia, industry, and government—a principle we value deeply at Unipart. AME is a fantastic example of partnership in action. Through our collaboration with Coventry University, AME has over a decade of experience bridging the gap between industry and academia. Key achievements include our Hyperbat Ltd, a joint venture with Fortescue Zero, born from a funded project within AME, Hyperbat's Coventry-based facility is one of the UK's largest independent EV battery systems manufacturers. Building on this success, we recently secured funding to upscale our capabilities in power electronics, supporting the drive for localised, sustainable electrification solutions. We’re proud to showcase how Unipart is delivering cross-sector innovation and developing skills needed for the industries of tomorrow. We are pleased to share that our manufacturing capabilities are widening to support growth across sectors. As a significant step in our journey beyond automotive manufacturing, we are proud to be producing the first Sleeper Layer on behalf of Unipart Rail, who are the distributor of this innovative product, which is designed by Thomson Engineering Design Ltd. This state-of-the-art machine is set to redefine track construction and renewal projects by offering: - Delivery rates of up to 1000 sleepers per hour - High precision through semi-autonomous operation - Advanced features, including remote condition monitoring and diagnostic support The Sleeper Layer is powered by a 55kW JCB diesel engine that meets the latest emissions standards. The plc control maximises efficiency and sustainability by monitoring engine parameters and minimising fuel use, offering a step change for the rail industry. We are excited to broaden our manufacturing reach into the rail sector, expanding our services to meet the evolving needs of customers across diverse industries, all while continuing to support our strong automotive roots.
