Watch how Uniti is bringing key services across health, finance, work and education to underserved populations — and helping AI be more representative, accurate and effective. At Uniti, we’re tackling one of the biggest challenges of our time: the digital divide. Today, 33% of the global population — nearly 2.6 billion people — are not online. These are the individuals left out of the tremendous innovations happening in AI, fintech, edtech, healthtech, and more. The impact of digital colonization extends much further — the information driving today’s AI technologies is skewed toward the 66% of people who are online. This means AI, which is rapidly transforming industries and societies, lacks sufficient information about how to serve low-income and offline populations. If we don’t act now, this online divide will continue to widen, and the consequences will be more severe as AI-driven solutions fail to reflect or benefit a large portion of the world. At Uniti, we’re building the Uniti SuperApp to address this gap. Our platform connects third-party apps with underserved populations, helping them access essential services and improve their wealth and well-being. By leveraging a proprietary coaching and engagement platform, we ensure that even the hardest-to-reach communities can meaningfully engage with digital services. Early signs have been encouraging. Our pilot program led to 22% engagement (vs 5% app industry average) and achieved 70% adoption across the suite. Last week, Uniti Networks had the privilege of accompanying The Associated Press as they explored smartphone penetration and Internet usage in Ghana and other parts of Africa. As Claire Sibthorpe, Head of Digital Inclusion at GSMA points out: only 25% of adults in sub-Saharan Africa have access to smartphones. The main barriers? Cost and digital literacy. The last few weeks have been exciting for Uniti! Fresh off the heels of our partnership with Alterset, we’re happy to announce a new phase of the WeGrow project in Ghana – in partnership with CARE and BLUETOWN – is underway! In April, we launched in the Volta Region where users have started experiencing the benefits of being online for the first time using a financed smartphone. With Uniti’s unique engagement program, these users can access apps in finance, health, education and work and can receive data subsidies and cashback through their participation. These essential services are in high demand but limited supply in rural and peri-urban communities. We followed this up with deployments in Addonkwanta and Supresu.
