This week, our entrepreneurship students at the University of Southampton Business School had such a fantastic opportunity to meet Dan Hooton and to work on Spearfish Security Ltd’s business challenges in the international market. A big thank to Dan Hooton for his inspiring talk, sharing invaluable insights, feedback and guiding our students through this hands-on learning experience. It was exciting to see the dynamism and enthusiasm of our students in utilising their knowledge from the International Entrepreneurship module to dive into the complexities, critically evaluating and developing solutions, and working together to tackle such real-world business problems. Well done all the teams for your excellent participation! Finally, I am so grateful to Professor Laura Costanzo University of Southampton Business School for the wonderful support to enhance our students' learning experience. #InternationalEntrepreneurship #experientiallearning #BusinessChalleges

AlignAlytics and University of Southampton are pleased to announce that we have secured funding from Innovate UK to collaborate on a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) in the field of advanced commercial analytics. The focus of this KTP will be to draw on the leading research from the University’s Centre for Operational Research, Management Science and Information Services (CORMSIS) in advanced modelling and analytics techniques to enable AlignAlytics to develop an AI-powered Revenue Management Solution using recently researched techniques that should be both better and more generalisable to more businesses. The KTP opportunity arose, as AlignAlytics and CORMSIS began working together on a variety of topics. We identified that in large parts of travel and leisure, small and medium businesses are locked out from ‘bread and butter’ commercial techniques due to the cost and complexity. We want to democratise these enhanced Revenue Management techniques to enable more businesses to adopt and benefit. In a KTP, the University of Southampton will employ the postgraduate as an Associate who will work onsite at AlignAlytics, jointly supervised by Professor Christine Currie and Dr Huan Yu at UoS and Sheldon Dee and Roger Ayers at AA. Watch this space for a recruitment advert for a KTP Associate to help fulfil the two year programme! Knowledge Transfer Partnerships is a UK-wide programme that has been helping businesses for the last 50 years to improve UK competitiveness and productivity through the better adoption of Knowledge, Technology and Skills, whilst enabling University research to become more widely adopted in practical business environments.

Fantastic to see this £300m investment vehicle launched today in partnership with QantX. As one of the SETsquared Partnership universities, this will increase capital, support and expertise for spin-outs and start-ups in our region. It is one of a series of key steps University of Southampton is taking to support commercialisation and spinout creation.
💫 BREAKING NEWS 💫 Today at the Regional Innovation for the Modern Economy event in Bristol, we announced our plans for a new £300m spin-out-focused investment vehicle in partnership with QantX Our six university partners have a combined research portfolio of over £600m and have produced over 230 spin-out companies. To support this rich pipeline of talent and innovation, we’re aiming to increase the amount of capital, expertise, and support available to spin-outs and start-up companies in our regions that are working in areas of true global impact – such as sustainability, clean energy, and transformative healthcare. The event was attended by Science Minister Lord Patrick Vallance, who says: “The UK is home to brilliant innovators, and this investment vehicle that brings together six Universities with a private sector investment firm, QantX, will help turn great ideas into thriving companies that create high-skilled jobs and exciting new products.” 👉 Get the full story here: https://lnkd.in/eaFDaDar Exeter Innovation University of Exeter Cardiff University / Prifysgol Caerdydd University of Southampton University of Bath University of Surrey University of Bristol techSPARK uk SETsquared Bristol SETsquared Bath Innovation Centre SETsquared Surrey Exeter Innovation Accelerator British Business Bank Bristol Innovations BI Foresight Marty Reid Harry Alexander Richard Haycock Michelle Law Andrew Wray Neil Hayes Diana Galpin David Woolley Caroline Fleming Aimee Skinner Photos by Julian Preece #investment #innovation #spinouts
