Very positive news that the UK achieved its cleanest power generation ever in 2024, marking a significant milestone in the journey towards #decarbonisation. According to a report from Carbon Brief the UK has halved its fossil fuel use in just a decade! The report estimates that clean energy sources, including #nuclearenergy, accounted for 58% of total power in the country last year. 2024 was a pivotal year for the #nuclearenergy sector, and Urenco is proud to have been at the forefront of developments. This year we saw the first #nuclearenergy summit in Brussels, which set the stage for global collaboration, highlighting the critical role of nuclear power in achieving #netzero. Another highlight was the continued development of #SMRs, which has shown great promise, offering flexible and efficient solutions to meet growing energy demands driven by the rise of AI data centers. For Urenco, 2024 was marked by significant milestones, such as the announcement of the HALEU facility at Urenco Capenhurst and the capacity expansion at Urenco USA These advancements position us to better serve the evolving needs of the energy sector and contribute to global #decarbonisation efforts. As we look ahead to 2025, we're excited to kick off the year with Nuclear Week in Parliament, where we'll continue to advocate for the vital role of #nuclearenergy in achieving #energysecurity. What are some popular ways to popularise some of them, like nuclear #science and #physics? ⚛️👩🏫🔬 A scientist from EPFL, Dr Vincent Lamirand, developed a Lego model of an experimental #nuclear facility and its components to make it more engaging and playful. A fantastic day spent at the Science Museum Group STEM Skills Fair recently, encouraging students in their #ScienceEducation with exercises that tested their communication skills and problem solving. The students especially enjoyed our timed activity, where they had to separate pasta, lentils and salt using only a sieve and tweezers, without spilling anything. Thank you to our fantastic volunteers, particularly those that took part in the Q&A sessions, stimulating students’ interest in #STEM fields.

We’re supporting the Heart of Bucks Together Against Poverty campaign this Christmas to give hope to those living in poverty in Buckinghamshire. The rising costs of daily life are leaving some people struggling to afford necessities including shelter, food, energy bills, and clothing. The money raised for #togetheragainstpoverty will allow Heart of Bucks to continue to provide valuable financial support to individuals and families experiencing hardship.
