Public engagement and information are an integral part of the VaxHub mission. The VaxHub Outreach and Training initiatives aim to actively engage with the wider community to: 💡 Reduce vaccine hesitancy 💡 Increase the awareness of the role of engineering in vaccine development and production 🏫 A major component is our UK school’s engagement program https://lnkd.in/eBXbwasC. We were excited to collaborate with Sheena Doshi on her school activities in India and delighted to see her success.
Vaccines save lives. 💉 But how many people 𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘭𝘺 understand how they work? Over the past few weeks in India, I’ve led a 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗲-𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝘃𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗮𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗴𝗻 in collaboration with VaxHub — an initiative I organized to bridge the gap between science and public understanding. 🎯 My goal? To break down the science behind vaccines in a way that was simple, engaging, and, most importantly, memorable. My first session was with the IGCSE-1 students at Symbiosis International School, where I outlined: 🔹 How vaccines train the immune system 🔹 The different types of vaccines (from mRNA to live attenuated) 🔹 How our COVID-19 vaccines were developed so quickly 🔹What is biochemical engineering? and more! As a 𝗕𝗶𝗼𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗕𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗱𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗲 from UCL, I’ve always been passionate about 𝘃𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝘁𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲. This experience reinforced something important—𝗮𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝘀 𝗰𝗿𝘂𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. A breakthrough vaccine can only change lives if people understand and trust it. 𝗟𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗲𝗱: ✅ 𝗦𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲, 𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 – Breaking down complex concepts for non-experts is often tougher than it seems, but an essential skill. ✅ 𝗠𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 – Questions from students reinforced just how crucial public education is in building trust in vaccines. ✅ 𝗟𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗼𝗽𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗻 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼𝗼𝗹 – Contrary to what I thought, high school students are still just as excited by lollipops, an excellent way to create an engaging, competitive atmosphere! A massive, heartfelt thank you to Stephen Morris, VaxHub and Dr. Madan Mohan M. for your unwavering support and trust in me—this event wouldn’t have been possible without you! Now, as I step into the pharmaceutical and biotech industry, I’m excited to keep driving conversations around vaccine accessibility, public health, and cutting-edge bioprocessing. If you work in vaccines, biopharma, or healthcare—let’s connect. There’s so much more to do! Stay tuned for more… #Vaccines #Biotechnology #HealthcareInnovation #PublicHealth #Bioprocessing

New joint publication from UCL VaxHub Sustainable and VaxHub Global research teams. Manufacturing and Financial Evaluation of Peptide-Based Neoantigen Cancer Vaccines for Triple-Negative Breast Cancer in the United Kingdom: Opportunities and Challenges Adriana Novakova, Stephen Morris, Ludovica Vaiarelli and Stefanie Frank https://lnkd.in/eCEguqcJ An evaluation of the financial burden of current treatments for triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) and analysis of financial scenarios to assess the feasibility of introducing a peptide-based neoantigen cancer vaccine (NCV) targeting the disease, using the UK as a healthcare system model. Conclusions. 💡 Immunogenicity challenges are the main thing currently hindering the successful development. 💡 Cost effectiveness as a standalone factor implies that the commercialisation of the therapy is possible. 💡 Current research focus should be on maximising the life prolongation factor while minimising the number of doses required per patient.
