🚨 HSE Bulletin Highlights Critical TExT Duties for Laboratory LEV Systems 🚨 On January 23rd, the HSE released a bulletin emphasising concerns that align closely with ours: many sectors still lack a clear understanding of their responsibilities when conducting Thorough Examination and Testing (TExT) of microbiological safety cabinets (MBSCs) and other laboratory-based LEV systems. For over 20 years, we at Vent-Tech have worked tirelessly to educate duty holders on this crucial topic. Just complying with the BS EN standards for systems such as Microbiological Safety Cabinets or Fume Cupboards isn’t enough. Whilst the standards BS EN 12469:2000 for MSC’s and BS EN 14175:2019 for fume cupboards both recommend testing methods and standards for these units, they are not as thorough as a compliant ‘Thorough Examination and Test’ as caried out in accordance with COSHH Regulation 9 by a competent person. Not every LEV TExT assessor is competent to undertake the works relating to MSC’s and Fume cabinets. the basic LEV testing course BOHS P601 does not cover the requirements to test MSC’s. It does not cover areas such as fumigation of the units, KI Discuss testing or DOP testing of the HEPA filters. At Vent-Tech, we recognise this and have undertaken extensive training to ensure all our LEV Assessors are fully qualified and competent to undertake the servicing and thorough examination and testing of these units. Last night was Vent-Tech's belated Christmas party. It was great to get our fantastic team together round one table, it so rare we get the chance these days what with everyone being spread all over the UK and with jobs all over the world (the reason we couldn't do it before Christmas was because some of the team were doing a project in Norway!). For those who don't know, over the last few years we have more than doubled the size of the business and that growth looks like continuing due to everyone's hard work and determination to protect workers health by practicing what we preach. I am immensely proud of our team.
