It's unquestionable that Emergency Call (eCall) has helped save lives since becoming mandated in 2018 across the European Union (EU), connecting the vehicle to the single emergency number 999/112 services, aiding them to locate the vehicle in the event of an incident or emergency situation. But as Mobile Network Operators (MNO's) across Europe are progressing the 'sunsetting' of 2G and 3G services the migration towards 4G, 5G and beyond, there is a corresponding need to transition, in a harmonised and coordinated way, towards Next Generation (NG) eCall. This includes a major upgrade to all member states Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) architectures and systems. Standards are now in place and the opportunity to develop new solutions based on additional data available from the vehicle presents itself.   VESOS is pleased to be working as a consortium associate in the EU project X_HeERO developing Next Generation eCall. Helping to save lives by improving response times and providing greater context to incidents for road operators, emergency services and responders. X_HeERO is a Connected Europe Facility (CEF) shared funding project administered by the European Climate Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA).
