A few years ago, we only had a handful of social media channels and their basic features to focus on – life was easy, and no one asked difficult questions about whether there was a return-oninvestment to be had! Social media has become a staple of the marketing mix and when offered as a stand-alone service or as part of a marketing package alongside other marketing mediums, it brings great investment. In fact, it’s hard to believe that a mere 20 years ago, it simply didn’t exist at all. However, with social media use also comes accountability, meaning those who utilise its features have had to get better at measuring it and reporting on its successes and pitfalls – a pretty difficult task when the world of social media changes almost weekly, right? Love it or loathe it, social media is now an integral part of our lives. And it’s not going away any time soon!

Do you know the difference between LinkedIn Business Pages and Showcase Pages? A Business Page is your company’s main profile, where you represent your entire organisation. It’s great for sharing updates, industry insights, company news, and building your brand. A Showcase Page is an extension of your Business Page, designed to focus on a specific product, service, or business unit. It allows you to create targeted content for a niche audience without cluttering your main page. For example, if your company provides both manufacturing solutions and renewable energy services, you can use Showcase Pages to separately highlight each division, tailoring the content to their respective audiences. #TechTalkTips #LinkedInStrategy

Something of a revelation to me… For some time, I’ve been reading and noticing that big social media voices keep talking about the shift towards organic social media. Obviously, it’s not hard to imagine that this caught my attention - after all, I’ve been living in the split reality of organic and paid for a decade now. I’ve written articles, voiced my opinions, so to be on the winning side is something of a revelation to me. Being the AI enthusiast that I am, I got my AI friend involved to analyse some data for me. I even asked it to draw me a graph (see below). Based on 2024 data from Social Media Examiner, Statista, Sprout Social, The Social Saviour, and Hootsuite, I finally got a real illustration of what I’ve been reading about for months. If my AI friend is anywhere close to the truth, the trend is clear - paid is slowing down while organic is taking off. Yay! This is excellent news for my niche B2B tech and engineering sectors. Platforms like LinkedIn and Instagram are leaning towards authentic, engaging content over ads, making organic reach far more valuable. But why the shift? 🤔 Maybe it’s because people feel that sponsored content is too obvious, too ‘salesy’, maybe even manipulative? It’s long been said that ‘content is king,’ and audiences seem to respond much better to genuine, value-driven posts - like carousels showcasing smart city innovations, or stories highlighting new renewable energy tech. It’s the kind of content that engages and informs, building those long-term relationships rather than chasing quick wins with ads. This is especially relevant in industries like mechanical engineering, automation, and biotech, where sharing expertise organically hits the mark much better than sponsored content. What’s your take - are you still using paid reach, or is organic the way forward now? 💭👇
