When creating a sub-brand, the relationship to the parent brand can be a delicate balance. Do you align closely, create complete separation, or land somewhere in between? The answer lies in understanding the degrees of separation and finding subtle ways to maintain a connection while allowing the sub-brand to stand on its own. For the Smart Home Energy Manager, it was essential for the visual identity to feel independent from Simpson & Partners (EV) Ltd while still retaining a tether to the parent brand. We achieved this through subtle design cues—common typography choices, shared design language, and nuanced elements like corner radius treatments that echo S&P’s visual identity. These small yet deliberate nods create cohesion without overwhelming the individuality of the sub-brand. This approach allows the Smart Home Energy Manager to stand as its own entity, confidently communicating its unique value, while still living within the larger Simpson & Partners ecosystem. Micro identities like these are about creating balance: distinct, yet connected. Rebranding The Old Stables to OSCO was about more than a name change, it was about crafting a visual identity that reflects the brand’s bold progression into a contemporary space. Partnering with Nicholas Dimpsey, we designed a system rooted in meaning: the three-dot motif speaks to tattoo culture, resilience, and OSCO’s pillars; Tattoo, Piercing, and Laser Removal. Introducing OSCO London, a visual identity rooted in heritage and modernised for a contemporary space. Partnering with Nicholas Dimpsey and his team, the rebrand from ‘The Old Stables’ to OSCO was not just about a new name, it was about creating a brand carries a message; ‘Our Stories Continue. At the heart of OSCO’s new look is a three-dot motif, inspired by the symbolic three-dot tattoo—a mark of resilience and progression across cultures. For OSCO, these dots embody its core pillars: Tattoo, Piercing, and Laser Removal, symbolising a journey that spans the past, present, and future. The design also nods to the organic imprint of ink on skin, grounding OSCO’s aesthetic in authenticity and craft.
