Situated 70 degrees north, well within the Arctic Circle, weather conditions are about as extreme as they can get in Hammerfest, Norway - a small town which last year took delivery of its first electric buses.⚡ “All in all, we've been very happy with Volvo’s electric buses. We've only had one stoppage where the bus ran out of power, but that was due to a failure in our own routines,” says Trond Inge Hausmann, Operations Manager at Tide Buss, the town’s public transport operator. “We’ve also received positive feedback from the local authority, Finnmark. We’re proud of that, but we want to do even better.” But how did Hammerfest end up with an electric bus fleet? 🔋🔌 Jan-Helge Sandvåg, Technical Director at Tide Buss explains: “When Finnmark invited tenders for bus services, it had a substantial weighting under environmental criteria that made it attractive and advantageous to offer electric buses, so that’s what we did.” Tide Buss won the tender, and work began on the procurement process and calculating the lowest possible TCO. There were other important factors to consider too, including a good aftermarket system. Exciting news from the other side of the world! 🌏 Hong Kong's largest non-franchised bus operator, Kwoon Chung, has signed a purchase agreement for 100 Volvo B8R and Volvo B13R units. “This collaboration underscores the trust Kwoon Chung places in our brand and team, and highlights our commitment to delivering high-quality vehicles that address the evolving needs of the transport sector,” says Emmanuel Jupet, Managing Director of Volvo Bus Hong Kong. The first buses will be in operation in the beginning of 2025.

Our Volvo BZL Electric is fast becoming a popular sight in fleets across the UK - and now it's fantastic to see them operating as far away as Perth, Australia.🌏 The first of an initial order for 18 electric buses recently entered service, with Transdev Western Australia Managing Director Bob Parton saying: “These new buses are cleaner, quieter, and more efficient - helping reduce Australia’s greenhouse gas emissions." This delivery follows a trial of four Volvo BZL Electrics which started in Joondalup in Perth's north in February 2022. The four buses depart from the bus depot in Joondalup and are charged using a rapid charging system for electric vehicles. Since the test started, the buses have transported roughly 440,000 passengers and driven more than 380,000 km, which means that carbon dioxide emissions have been reduced by around 350 tonnes. The bodywork was completed by local bodybuilder Volgren Australia. And what a striking livery too! 😮💚 #volvobuses #emobility #electricbus
