Our UoP Staff Sustainability Network has been a long time in the making so this first seminar session has certainly been a highlight during our first campaign on Waste ♻️ In the last few months we've also invited Warp it and UniGreenScheme to speak our staff, reminding them of second hand opportunities available to them. We shared the University of Plymouth Students' Union's opportunity of on-site bike repairs through local CIC Dr Bike AND facilitated a trip to local organisations Plymouth Scrapstore and Bogey Knights, to encourage thinking about alternative ways to reuse material. Our next Campaign on Energy will start in December, with part of the programme including Plymouth Energy Community coming to campus to talk with colleagues as part of the Future Fit scheme to upgrade their homes to stay warm and save money 💰 #sustainability #waste #staffnetwork

We’re ‘Joining the Cycle’ this National Recycling Week, with a spotlight on our brand-new Maitland Workplace Hub 🏢 Designed as a flexible workspace for government employees living in and visiting the Hunter region, it’s also a great example of our commitment to reusing and recycling materials, furnishings and equipment in NSW Government offices 💪 During the Hub’s construction, 91% (or 412 tonnes) of demolition materials were recycled, including timbers, plasterboard, metals, textiles and concrete ⚒️ The Hub features: ♻️ 100% recycled nylon carpet tiles throughout ♻️ Acoustic panels with 51% recycled PET throughout the hub ♻️ Acoustic panels with 60% recycled PET in meeting rooms. And has repurposed: ✅ 40 workstations ✅ 220 task chairs ✅ 67 storage units ✅ 323 monitors and 330 monitor arms ✅ 5 microwaves ✅ 2 mobile whiteboards. More broadly, our Property and Development NSW team is developing best practice guidelines to prioritise circularity, and championing the use of Warp it, an online marketplace for government agencies to rehome equipment otherwise destined for landfill 🤝 #RecyclingWeek #CircularEconomy #JoinTheCycle #Sustainability
