I have put my studies into practice in my daily work. Studying part-time at university provides important theories, which help with the work I do on projects. As an apprentice, I have seen a wide variety of different sectors of civil engineering. National Apprenticeship Week Recap 🌟 Earlier this week, Malaikah Khanom, an Apprentice Engineer from our infrastructure and environment team had the privilege of speaking to a fantastic group of Year 10 students at St. Paul’s Way Trust School as part of National Apprenticeship Week.   During the session, she had the opportunity to share insights about her career and the skills needed to succeed. Malaikah also had the opportunity to showcase some of the projects she’s worked on and spoke one-on-one with students who were curious about their next steps after GCSEs.   These students are part of a programme designed to help them explore various career paths by providing guidance on potential routes. The aim was to open their eyes to the possibilities in the construction industry, help them build employability skills, and answer their questions to make informed decisions about their futures.   A huge thank you to St. Paul’s Way Trust School for the opportunity! Three questions, two Apprentices, one goal: to find out who knows the most about life at Waterman. That’s the challenge we presented two of our London-based Apprentices, Tristan Klander and Fahim Kalam, as they went head-to-head in a game of ‘LIES’. They answered a series of Apprenticeship themed questions to find out who would come out on top and who would crumble under the time limit pressure. We joined our future talent to capture some snaps as we hosted the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) at our premises for insightful sessions with our London apprentices, apprentice mentors and line managers, Supervising Civil Engineers (SCE) and graduates! Our London ICE Membership Development Officers, Janet Benefo BEng(Hons) MSc IEng MICE and Piran Armes, discussed topics including apprenticeship end point assessment, guidance on what is expected in terms of demonstrating the attributes effectively, and how to support trainees and become a SCE.
