The results of our first social impact assessment on Carbon Tanzania's Yaeda Valley REDD project are out! Using the Social Return on Investment methodology to measure the value people gained from the project it has been determined that for every $1 invested into the Yaeda Valley REDD project, we see a $25 Social Return on Investment. 💵 How did we arrive at this calculation? What should be one of the main considerations when starting the process of developing a nature-based solution❓ 💡 Gaining an understanding of the concerns and expectations of Indigenous peoples and local communities (IP and LCs). With this understanding, you begin to appreciate the costs – both financial and societal – to protecting land and associated biodiversity. Over the last 13 years spent working with local communities, we have learned deforestation and biodiversity loss are never driven by one, simple cause. Cultural traditions and approaches to land-use interact with political factors and climate change to collectively drive biodiversity loss and deforestation. 💲 We create and support models that channel funds from those committed to addressing the climate and biodiversity crises to those whose stewardship protects natural resources.
