Great session on West London Waste Authority's 'Waste as a Resource' initiative! Key takeaways included: ♻️ WLWA is developing a new strategic model that views waste as a valuable resource. ♻️ With a 65% recycling target, they’re aiming to double recycling and composting while halving waste levels. ♻️ The initiative focuses on five key areas: citizen perception, organisational excellence, increased access, data-driven efficiency, and reuse. ♻️ WLWA is working on creating a 'single source of truth' to build trust and promote data-driven decision-making, with scenario planning and trend analysis as key tools. ♻️ Understanding waste composition is essential for treating it as a resource, and WLWA is taking action to get a complete picture. ♻️ Research into citizen perceptions is driving better segmentation and targeting for more effective engagement. ♻️ They’re also focused on social value and reuse to shift customer attitudes. ♻️WLWA also found that low food waste recycling service utilisation is a major barrier to higher recycling rates.

On Monday, West London Waste Authority visited the impressive Renew Hub in Manchester! We got to see their repair workshops in action, where everything from bikes to electronics and furniture gets a second life. Check out their online shops on EBay and shopify! In the afternoon, we stopped by one of their on-site Renew shops located at a Household Reuse and Recycling Centre (HRRC). The shop supports local charities by selling unwanted quality items which otherwise may have gone to waste!
