Water with Will - a bit late this week. Let the fun begin with the Colorado River. A recap. From the November 20th Colorado Sun, the Bureau of Reclamation overview of five water management options. "Alternative 1, would stick closely to the current rules, which were established in 2007 and are widely regarded as insufficient because they allowed the reservoirs to fall so low. Under this plan, Lake Powell could release anywhere from 5 million to 9.5 million acre-feet down to the Lower Basin states — Arizona, California and Nevada. Other reservoirs, like Blue Mesa in Colorado, might be called on to help with these releases, and the Lower Basin could have to cut its use by up to 3.5 million acre-feet. Alternative 2 would require all basin states, even Colorado, to conserve water during times of shortage and it would involve multiple federal reservoirs, like Blue Mesa, the largest reservoir in Colorado. Upper Basin officials from Colorado, New Mexico, Wyoming and Utah argue they should not have to conserve water because the states already use less than their full share of the river. They also say the new management rules should only include lakes Mead and Powell. Alternative 3 incorporates ideas from conservation organizations. Under this option, Lake Powell could release more water: Its maximum releases could reach 11 million acre-feet, which is higher than the 9.5 million acre-feet listed in other options. This proposal also includes basinwide cutbacks, including more conservation in the Lower Basin — a maximum of 4 million acre-feet compared with 3.5 million acre-feet included in other alternatives. Alternative 4 aims to blend competing proposals submitted by upper and lower basin states and tribal nations. Under this draft alternative, Lake Powell might be required to release 12 million acre-feet and to pull water from upstream reservoirs depending on the conditions in the basin. This alternative includes provisions to ensure tribal nations will be involved in water management. It calls for basinwide cutbacks when water is short and calls for less Lower Basin conservation —maximum cutbacks are listed as 2.1 million acre-feet. The draft released Wednesday is part of a long, federal process. For the new rules to be ready at the start of 2027, the federal government must have a finalized agreement by August 2026." It is worth tracking how this plays out and whether the final outcome actually addresses the challenges facing the Colorado River. Everyone knows... I am in love with Portugal.. But......! Back in the UK, felt so good! Where I used to live from 2005-2008... This time with a Dutch delegation of high water-tech companies for two intense days in Brighton! Apart from an amazing run along this stunning coastline, it’s been a packed program of knowledge exchange and, most importantly, building valuable connections. A big thank you to @BritishWater Southernwaters Energy and all the organizations and individuals contributing to this event. It’s great to see how the UK and the Netherlands can inspire each other in water innovation. Looking forward to the collaborations ahead!

Many different type of #𝐰𝐚𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 in a water stressed world! We can help you in understanding the different ESRS for #water! Reach out to me and my colleagues!
In today's business landscape, transparency in Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices isn't just a nice-to-have; it's a necessity. The initiation of the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) this year, impacting over 50,000 companies, signifies a crucial shift towards more accountable business practices. However, as we embark on this journey towards greater transparency, we face a multitude of challenges, not least the risk of various forms of corporate misrepresentation. 𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧𝐰𝐚𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠: This term has gained significant traction in recent years. It refers to companies overstating or fabricating their environmental credentials to appear more eco-friendly than they are. 𝐁𝐥𝐮𝐞𝐰𝐚𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠: Often linked to the United Nations and its Global Compact program, bluewashing is when companies claim association with UN initiatives to seem more socially responsible, yet fail to adhere to sustainability or corporate responsibility principles. 𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐇𝐮𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠: Contrary to greenwashing, green hushing is when companies under-communicate or fail to disclose their environmental or sustainable achievements. 𝐖𝐡𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐰𝐚𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠: This is generally about ignoring or covering up faults, errors, or negative aspects, especially within corporate or governmental actions. In media and entertainment, it denotes casting white actors for roles of non-white characters, criticized as a form of racial misrepresentation. 𝐏𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐰𝐚𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠: A term used to describe situations where an entity promotes support for LGBTQ+ rights to garner consumer favor, yet lacks actual supportive policies for these communities. 𝐑𝐞𝐝𝐰𝐚𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠: Is the deceptive use of leftist rhetoric to promote an egalitarian image contrary to an organization or person's actual regressive policies and practices that exacerbate inequality. 𝐁𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐰𝐚𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 (𝐃𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐖𝐚𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠): This refers to companies overstating or misrepresenting their commitment to diversity and inclusion, particularly regarding race and ethnicity. 𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐖𝐚𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 (𝐄𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐖𝐚𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠): Similar to greenwashing, but focusing on exaggerating a company's social or ethical credentials. 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐖𝐚𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠: Common in the food and beverage industry, this involves marketing products as healthy when they may not be. Effective ESG reporting goes beyond adhering to standards; it requires a commitment to transparency, supported by facts and independent audits. The key is clear, honest communication, crucial in building stakeholder trust. Despite its challenges, this approach is essential for companies dedicated to genuine sustainability and ethical practices, enhancing their reputation and contributing to a more sustainable, equitable world. This highlights the critical role of communication in shaping corporate sustainability. #europeanunion #sustainability #ESRS https://bit.ly/3ZaPIBR
