Compassionate care for people in Wigan and Leigh living with life-limiting illnesses

About us

Wigan & Leigh Hospice provides specialist palliative care for people with incurable illnesses as well as those people important to our patients. We’re a registered charity funded mainly through the donations and support of local people. We provide expert palliative care and support - not just from within our hospice building, but also out in the community to people living in their own homes through our community nursing teams. Our aim is to make a real difference to people with life-limiting illnesses and to support their families and carers. It's very much a myth that a hospice is only for those who are close to death: we often provide skilled care, help and support over an extended period of time to people living with a life-limiting illness.

Updates

  • We are thrilled to be announced as Wigan Warriors Rugby League Club Charity of the Year for the 2025 season! This is a huge honour, as like Wigan Warriors, Wigan & Leigh Hospice is rooted in the Wigan community, and it is the communities support that continues to keep our services going. Every year, hundreds of families like Liam’s are supported by the hospice and we know what a difference our services make. We are really looking forward to working alongside Wigan Warriors in this partnership and can’t wait to see you all in the new third kit this season. We hope you are as excited as we are! 💜

  • Do you have a real Christmas tree in your home this year? Watch our Events Fundraiser Chris, as he explains why you should get organised and register to have your Christmas tree collected and recycled by us this January! Simply register your collection, select a date and we’ll do the rest. Find out more here: https://buff.ly/4fXAmWS Please note that the final day for registration is midnight on Sunday 5th January, and our collections will be taking place from Thursday 9th January until Saturday 11th January 2025.

  • Did you know it is National Grief Awareness Week? This week is dedicated to raising awareness of grief, and to normalise having conversations about it. The theme this year is ‘Shine a Light’, highlighting people and projects around the UK that support people who are experiencing bereavement.  We are proud to offer Counselling and Bereavement Support services here at the hospice, with sessions such as the Bereavement Café, Walk and Talk Bereavement Group, Understanding your Grief and A Day to Remember available to those who need support. To find out more about these services, please contact our Counselling team on 01942 525566 or wlhospice.admin@nhs.net or visit the website using the link below. https://lnkd.in/dNzjftgV

  • Thank you to the Wigan Barber Shop Harmony Club who have raised £500 for the hospice through selling equipment and fundraising at their performances. They are active supporters of the hospice and regularly donate, helping us to continue to provide quality end of life and palliative care to those who need it within the Wigan and Leigh area. • There has been an incredible response so far to the news that we are Wigan Warriors Rugby League Club Charity of the Year for the 2025 season, and we have loved seeing everyone’s photos in the new Third Kit shirts! With over 1,000 shirts sold within the first 6 hours, we are overwhelmed by the community’s response and can’t wait for a fantastic year ahead. One of our shirts even made its way over to the Gold Coast in Australia! Check out some of our amazing supporters in their new shirts and be sure to tag us in all your photos! 💜
