With Christmas around the corner, our teams have been rallying to support their local communities. Special thanks to colleagues at our Brandlesholme HQ near Bury, who have run gift and winter clothing appeals for the Bury Homeless Project, a shoe box appeal for local animals, and urgently needed collections for the Brandlesholme Food Bank. At such a busy time of year, when we all need one another’s support more than ever, we’re extremely proud of the generosity and community-spiritedness of our colleagues. Well done to all of you. #Christmas #community #ourpeople

With sustainability at the forefront of all we do at William Hare, we are encouraged by the progress being made within our supply chain to achieve Net Zero by 2050. Our Scope 3 emissions account for more than 95% of our company’s embodied carbon emissions, so this is a major priority for us. As key contributors to SteelZero, and with a firm eye on our interim 2030 milestone, we have recently issued a questionnaire to our supply chain members to improve the granularity of our carbon data. Once received, this data will be shared with the broader SteelZero membership and undoubtedly used in the next round of carbon reporting early in the new year. We very much appreciate the continued support of our supply chain, especially through this crucially important transition phase when significant investment is required by many to take their next significant step towards a more sustainable future. We remain available to all key stakeholders (upstream and downstream) – if you would like to continue the discussion, please contact Jonathan Davis, our Associate Technical Director. We currently have some great job opportunities at our Risca facility in South Wales and at Hinkley Point C in Somerset. As a result of an increase in demand for heavy, complex fabrication, our Risca factory has expanded its operations to add a second factory shift. It is now looking to recruit 20 fabricators and welders from within the local community to maximise the facility’s output capacity. The new recruits will work on structural steel of varying grades and thicknesses, and must be either time served or at NVQ level 3 or 4. At Hinkley Point C, we require 30 welders to support on innovative steel solutions for the construction of the two new nuclear reactors. Candidates must have certificates using the MMA welding process to BS EN ISO 9606-1 standard, covering all positions and material thickness. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Health and Safety at Work Act – groundbreaking legislation that has helped to keep millions of workers safe. To celebrate and raise awareness of the HSWA amongst colleagues, we produced our own posters for facilities and offices, highlighting key facts about the Act and its impact. Did you know that between 1974 and 2020, there was an 88% reduction in fatal workplace injuries? As we approach the end of the year, let’s all take time to be grateful for the difference the HSWA has made to our industry. #safety #healthandsafety #HSWA #construction #structuralsteel
