About us
WMG is an academic department at the University of Warwick. Our research and education bridge the gap between academia and the public and private sectors, driving innovation across science, technology and engineering. WMG was founded by the late Professor Lord Kumar Bhattacharyya in 1980 to help reinvigorate UK manufacturing and help businesses overcome barriers to innovation. WMG’s pioneering research and education programmes, in partnership with UK and global business, has helped to transform firms in sectors such as automotive, advanced manufacturing and digital technologies. Our track record makes us the first choice for global businesses looking to invest in new techniques, products and skills that have a real impact on economic growth, society, and the environment. WMG’s education programmes begin with schools, following through to undergraduate and postgraduate level. Our focus is on creating lifelong learning opportunities for global talent in partnership with industry. We provide a range of courses and education programmes, from the WMG Academies for Young Engineers, degree apprenticeships, undergraduate and postgraduate Master’s courses, through to professional programmes and research degrees. WMG’s postgraduate programmes have international reach, with many being offered with global partners, allowing us to share our knowledge with working professionals as well as full-time students in a local industrial and economic context.

We’re proud to be supporting the Faraday Battery Challenge part of the UKRI Challenge Fund investment. Our Professor of Battery Systems, James Marco: “The team were excited to see their research into AI and machine learning being adopted by such an important partner as UKBIC. Helping them improve the quality and sustainability of their electrode manufacturing operations has been at the heart of the Nextrode project since its conception.” #Electrification #Research The Faraday Institution UKBIC WMG Business

The University of Warwick were at the Coventry Building Society Arena on Monday and Tuesday this week to support Highly Sprung Performance with their Youth Energy Summit. I think this was a brilliant event that really put young people at the centre of the narrative. They ran the panel discussion, supported the event management, took part in all sorts of roles and responsibilities, and they were fantastic. I ran a couple of workshops and had a great time showing students the value of teamwork to #engineering projects and making sure that we get a product that actually works. I also had fun on the panel discussion using pineapple on pizza explaining why some people say controversial things about the climate to get engagement. It's an odd comparison... but it worked! Thanks to Russ Hall of WMG, University of Warwick for an awesome keynote talk about what energy actually is, setting the context for what the young people would be hearing about for the rest of the day. Russ didn't shy away from sharing detailed information with the pupils but made it really accessible and I'm sure that will have built a lot of belief in them that with time their skills will develop, to the point they will be in highly skilled jobs working with technical data. Thanks to all the research projects and student teams who supported the event with interactive stands for the audience: Warwick Moto | Warwick University Human Powered Submarine | Warwick Racing | Warwick Women in Engineering and Science | #WarwickAgriTech | Warwick Fighting Robots Thanks Warwick Institute of Engagement (Dr Kerry Baker) for supporting the event with workshops and Stephanie Panichelli-Batalla being on the panel with me. Thanks as well to Eon.io for their sponsorship of the event and Coventry City Council for all their input (Rhian Palmer). #HighlySprung #GreenFutures #WarwickSTEM #WMGoutreach
